@simon It goes beyond misleading. It's an outright lie pandering to emotion. They don't even reflect the square crop for the training data.Despite their definitive claim, my face is not generated by #stablediffusion. I also fed it four complex SD-generated images in a row, and only the last one found any "matches," and I don't see any similarity.I note they are owned by a company called Chroma, which seems to be developing a competing business plan. The whole website is astroturf.

@simon It's almost like Google is trying to make it difficult, and of course they do. Same reason that GPhotos app demands access to every photo before working. They want access to the precious location data stored in every photo. Photos are really great for data mining.

@masek @lauren I'd prefer that foreign government don't float surveillance equipment over the country, and Air Force pilots need the practice anyway. I only wish we'd be more frugal about how we shoot them down. Laser sounds promising for popping balloons.

@lauren @masek I doubt we do balloons specifically, but I'm well aware that US surveillance is pretty much ubiquitous. I don't see the surveillance equipment from China as an insult or an act of war, but I believe it's our duty to protect our borders as best we can. While this is an embarrassment to the US, I don't particularly care. Protect your privacy or you lose it.

@simon This is exactly the kind of MacOS trick I've been looking for. Saved! Good alternatives to ImageMagick are just so tough to find.

@Popehat Most of us don't want to know what they're saying over there either. We feel your pain.

@stux Positive realist. I see the negative (so much negative!), but choose to believe in the better outcomes because it's good for me. And oddly enough, they often do happen.

@wauz Smarter, but with negative charm. Even my funda-publican coworkers who adore Carlson aren't mentioning DeSantis.I heard them say "he's abrasive--I wish we had an alternative" about Trump this week, and DeSantis seemingly didn't even cross their minds.

@wauz I've got to say that your European opinion is diverges wildly from what it's like to live under a U.S. government led by the opposing parties. Impotent pessimism is poison, as so many of us undesirables have found. We suffered for four miserable years and are still dealing with the consequences today. Not equivalent. As for foreign policy, Germany has learned that selling out to Russia for the sake of profit is an expensive mistake. Peace in our time sometimes means war tomorrow.

@wauz I'll concede German politics to you (assuming you live there) if you'll concede US politics to us. But Russia's invasion is blood on their hands alone. Putin will not be persuaded by friends, let alone manipulated by enemies. And to be clear, none of us are at war with Russia. Tens of NATO soldiers acting on their own have died on Ukrainian soil. Not tens of thousands.

@wauz It seems we're losing sight of who the aggressors are in Ukraine. Murdering civilians, killing and kidnapping children... everyday atrocities for a despicable dictator.Afghanistan, Iraq & others are a shame and humiliation on the US. But anyone who can only see modern world events through those lenses is as myopic as the warmongers. How much of Europe do you want to lose to the reinvented USSR?I'm done comparing US wars of aggression with us attempting to protect the Ukrainian people.

@wauz Again you flee to the past while ignoring the present. Have you noted any disagreement on US involvement in actual wars? We're experts in despicable, as is most of Europe. But here I'm calling it as I see it. There's blood on everyone's hands, but there's fresh blood spilled in Ukraine thanks to Putin. Ukraine deserves our help.

@wauz Green social programs mean nothing when Russia invades. The pure hubris of assuming that the largest army in Europe wouldn't be used against neighbors by the ruling dictator. But it's easy to ignore vulnerable people when you're in NATO.If you really believe one diplomat--or even the US government--is more responsible for murdering Ukrainian people than the invading Russians, then our value systems are too incompatible to continue this conversation. It is insulting to their memories.

@noondlyt Could be worse. Bluesky could be using Network Solutions or Godaddy. That being said, this makes me doubt their commitment to defederation. If it was done, they could easily create a package with hosting and domain. That's worth $15/mo or so. But maybe they enjoy keeping users on their official server too much.

@ZachWeinersmith I still have Wooster's random terms of endearment come back to me at odd times. It's easy to find him a completely worthless upper-class leech on society, but it's tough not to find him at least a little endearing. I suppose shallow characters are just part of Wodehouse's style.

@futurebird I fear we will need the full involvement of the national guard this time, and I deeply hope they use appropriate restraint. The true believer fringe's energy hasn't diminished like the rest of their party. We need protection without creating any martyrs. As for me, I will accept whatever comes, though I can think of one result that would leave me sobbing in a pillow. Let's avoid that outcome if possible.

@futurebird Better lenses and sensors have some appeal. Lights are evil, and AI is unneeded. Battery life is precious and the only reason I'd consider one of the super-large phones.

@frameworkcomputer I'd promote a good small or medium office laser printer/scanner with serviceable parts and no-DRM firmware to all my clients. Brother is barely tolerable and all too disposable, so how are they the best for under $1,000?
