@futurebird I'm a member of @mayfirst co-op and use their web hosting stuff a lot. If you need a dedicated private server it gets expensive quick, but if you're okay just serving some pages off of the shared infrastructure it's pretty great. Comes with databases, nextcloud, email, and instant messaging using #XMPP too.

@ghostdancer @clacke I had a similar feeling with "Raised by Wolves". I absolutely loved it at first, but after a while it felt like too much setup for too little payoff, which was sad because the first season was a lot of fun. I still really enjoyed it though, but I get why they canceled it.

I had completely forgotten that there is a a Star Trek episode from the early 2000's where the doctor finds out that an insurance executive is rationing healthcare so he poisons him and holds him hostage until he agrees to treat the poor patients. Then he feels bad and tells Seven that he did something unethical and she literally tells him that it seems perfectly ethical and not to worry about it.

@izzy right? I get why these weren't popular when they came out (expensive, no clearly defined purpose, etc.) but now that they can be had cheap second hand I'm always surprised I don't see more of them! (or any of the CB range, for that matter, I feel like I only ever see CBRs)

Okay, hear me out: what if we got rid of all the shitty apps and changed web browsers to be a dumb viewer for Wikipedia-like pages only? Maybe let other people host their own pages too, but they could all interlink, but they would just be text and styling so you could find information easier. Like some sort of connected web of documents that spans the world. Is that anything? Nah, probably a dumb idea.

Is there somewhere I can buy coax power cables and just select the volts, amps, and barrel size? I'm kind of surprised monoprice doesn't do this, but they don't even have a category for them (they're just scattered around and listed as a power supply for a specific thing, you can't actually find or buy them by the specs as far as I can tell).

It appears that this actually doesn't exist, which is shocking to me. Anyone want to team up to just make a site that sources power supplies and lets you type in the specific sizes to find them without being overly technical? I feel like you could make a fortune doing this because right now finding a replacement is impossible.

@purple Even if it is listed they never list the barrel size (and I don't trust them to know it or measure it properly). Plus you can't find it because even if it's listed you have to dig through every single category of electronics on whatever site because they're never in a category of their own. Also I just don't want to waste time emailing people :)

@davidrevoy Odysseus' is tied to the mast yelling "get back to work" while his crew sit up front waving lighters above their heads, pulling out concert ear plugs, etc. as if they were just watching the show and had tied their boss up so that they could take a break.

Oh shit, Gists. I forgot about gists. There are 149 of these to go through, that's gonna take forever (and probably break some old links). Oh well. Moving off of GitHub entirely even if it kills me.#GitHub

@tyil I'd rather move once every 10 years than waste my time trying to do ops stuff and fixing it when it goes down, and then setting up more infrastructure to manage that, plus CI, etc. I hate computers, why would I willingly make myself do more of that, even if I did have the skills (which not all devs do)?I'd start a co-op with a few people though where that workload and the associated costs could be spread out more, if you want to start a cooperative hosting platform though.
