@pluralistic @TimHarford hiding every post in the thread behind separate “long thread” makes it a lot of work to unfold and read. is there a reason for it? or am i missing some way to unhide all of them at once?

@kelvin0mql thanks! i do know i can read it on his blog, but still kinda crappy experience here on mst. not just a bad reading experience, but my timeline is full of “long thread 4/23, long thread 5/23, long thread 6/23” to the horizon.

@levisan yeah dunno! i know some third party apps do icloud calendars (fantastical etc) but maybe not all of cron’s value add features are doable w apple’s tech

realizing algo-twitter has conditioned me to treat my likes as quasi-retweets, and my retweets as mega-boosts. what makes a thing boostworthy on here? maybe i should go back to ye olde trigger-happy boosterism of yore?

@levisan @jeremiah that would've been way more money though, so i'm driving them around in this instead. only serious regret is the lack of additional passenger capacity. (i've been taking the kids to school one at a time tuesday mornings while my wife's got the car at work)

really having trouble deciding on a mastodon instance to move to. was liking how qoto.org seemed, til i noticed they've defederated mastodon.social, which is baffling and sorta seems like a red flag!indieweb.social, typo.social, and front-end.social seem cool, but overly specific given my interests? maybe i should just choose a domain based on anti-aesthetics (beige.party?) and be done

a bunch of others i looked at seem defed-happy — like they just blanket ban any instance that's ever tolerated any jerkwads. which, more power to them but that's not where i wanna be. i can block problematic domains myself if i want, thanks.

@Nazareno @jeremiah oh wow. similar stuff in russian orthodox church, right? is this historically normal in orthodox traditions? here the anglicans have a milder version (more honouring military deaths from the congregations with plaques and such) but most churches i’ve been in have nothing military-connected

pretty sure i’m going to move to the qoto.org instance. the other instances i tested out (beige.party, indieweb.social, tilde.zone, and of course mastodon.social) all to some degree are “protecting me” from seeing some of the totally normal content of folks i'm already interacting with on other instances. qoto.org seems to show me everything i try to see, so far.
