Apparently I'm going to try and temp the #migraine gods by adding sleep deprivation to tomorrow's menu.Hopefully the pressure changes are done though.Goodnight!

@Ricardus hmmm, that's a cause I'd never heard of. And *many* of my migraines feel like they start in my neck, and move up into my head. But then I get nausea / vertigo, and other weird neurological crap (sensitivity to noise and touch being big ones).

@Ricardus huh. AFAIK, my primary trigger is barometric pressure changes.Used to be any direction, montelukast has gotten it down to one direction (down, as we have a low coming in tomorrow) and I suspect a certain rate of change.Hoping Neuro will let me up the dose, in contrast to my GP (who was nice enough to let me try it at least).

@djhocking Saw your tweet, thought I'd answer it here.Seeing a good number of people here on @mastodon.social, and then some of the new general instances that have spun up.@fossdoton.org you get an #rstats and #python custom emoji, but *have* to post in english, apparently. 🤷 And there is at least one instance related to visualization that I've seen some people on.Glad to have you here.

@djhocking Forgot to mention, if you do it right, you can follow hashtags, and they *seem* to propagate across instances, like I've seen #rstats stuff here on .social that came from other people all over fediverse. So that seems to work well, at least.

@clive I am so thankful I ended up with enough time towards the end of my undergraduate degree to take three history courses I was interested in: military history (I & II), and the history of prohibition and rum running.I wish there had been a required course on the history of science, and the ethical and racist considerations of previous and current scientific work.

@clive the course was fairly interesting. Any course on that held on 🇨🇦 university will be full of local stuff due to so many communities being involved.I did my undergrad at UNB, and the maritimes had more than their fair share of involvement in rum running. It was interesting going through local newspapers from the 1920's.Part of the reasons I was able to do the class was having had poor grades in Calculus earlier in my studies, I needed a 5yh year.

@futurebird It's a cool piece of engineering, that's why! Seriously, who cares about the "why" if you really want to do it.

@futurebird who me?? Look, I don't have the stickers, have enough of my own projects I use to shirk responsibilities, and want to see a model built. So yeah, definitely enabling.

@futurebird our kiddos use Crest Kids Sparkle Fun (fluoride) that has a bubble gum like flavor, and then a Strawberry flavored one (youngest doesn't like bubble gum apparently 🤷‍♂️).

@futurebird I mean, @StephenBHeard has already done a book on eponymous naming that was an interesting read (https://www.amazon.com/Charles-Darwins-Barnacle-Bowies-Spider/dp/0300238282/), I'm thinking this sounds like a very cool sequel? 😉

@futurebird a more modern version, "raincloud plot" sounds like the happiness of seeing your results are going to get "rained on".

@futurebird I've been thinking about this even in the context of our backyard. Most years, we are swatting away mosquitoes, even with a couple of water traps to get the females. And dusk should be lighting up with lightning bugs and flies about now.I've swatted two mosquitoes this spring. And I've seen one lightning bug. Not good.

@futurebird yeah, we leave these guys alone in our house. The kids have even built a tunnel out of magnetic tiles for one that insisted on going across the carpeted living room regularly, and was likely going to get squashed by accident.

@futurebird part of the reason I stopped wearing watches was due to banging against the keyboard when I type (I am almost always typing something), and my wrist swells and shrinks over the course of a day enough that a regular band starts out too loose, and then too tight. My Zox band for my Emeterm has been awesome though, and if I ever got another watch, I would definitely be putting a Zok band on there, as it's infinitely adjustable.

@futurebird Yeah, I was not a great "coach / advisor" for my 2 years in FTC. I did way too much intervention and "we need to do this". Although I tried to do most of it by way of pointing to the rule book.I miss seeing the improvement in the kids as they were there year over year, and seeing them figure things out, but my ulcer and free time are doing much better.

@futurebird I used to work with X ray crystal structures, and reading some of the manuscripts describing what researchers would try to get a good crystal to work with was something else.I recall reading a description that included using a cats whisker for part of the process! And I'm like "how did they figure that out?"

@futurebird YES! I'm from the East Coast of Canada, currently living in Kentucky, and we get a solid couple of weeks that feel like "real winter" every year.Everyone assumes I'm used to the cold. I hated it in Canada too. But I know how to dress for the cold! And am willing to spend money on the winter clothes when they are available.
