@susie Strawberry's volume control is strange and does not match with anything else on my system. When using ReplayGain I had to set -15db on the pre-amp slider to make it comparable to other music players. Thanks for the info about rsgain. I have used that for the old ReplayGain tags sometimes, and did not know it could write these. Strawberry might not read them yet though.

I guess I cannot enable normalization in strawberry for the whole collection. It would take all week to rescan everything. Strawberry also does not save progress as it does this, so if I need to restart it at any point all of that work is just thrown away.

@susie Strawberry choked on trying to update my entire library, so I will go back to using rsgain like you suggested here. I can run it incrementally to update all files over time.

@mdhughes @Angle Some hose clamps can keep it from sinking down like that. I got quite a few extra years out of my old chair that way.

Went with the BBQ brisket burger today. :blobcatmeataww: Supposedly there was a tomato on there, but I didn't notice it under all the onion rings.

@karolat About four years ago, when I still had a dual-boot setup, I compared my performance in World of Warcraft. It was 5-10% lower FPS in linux. There was also one special effect in a dungeon that amplified that difference for some reason, and I had to look away from it while fighting that boss. Otherwise it was fine.About a year later I dropped the dual boot for linux full time. I imagine performance and compatibility has only improved since then due to support from Steam. All games I have tried work, though sometimes I have to do a bit of troubleshooting first.

@bleedingphoenix Blazing Saddles or Spaceballs. Mel Brooks made a lot of comedy classics.

@icedquinn When I was a teenager I bought a PCI card that connected to a VCR and let me backup games onto VHS tapes. I was convinced tape was the future of bulk storage. Oh how naive I was.

:ablobcatbongokeyboard: It was time for another Kubuntu update, now from 22.04 to 24.04. As with previous updates, they fixed some old bugs and created some new ones.Fixed:1. That single pixel tall gap at the bottom of maximized windows is gone.2. KIO had a bug preventing it from generating thumbnails for folders. The workaround I used was to lock the package at the version before the bug.3. Gwenview was broken in some way that forced me to use the flatpak version instead. Unfortunately I forgot what the issue was.New:1. After exiting a fullscreen game that disables the compositor, the taskbar becomes translucent. I normally have it set to be opaque. This fixes itself when it open a maximized window.2. Folders in Dolphin's tree view do not consistently show the > expander even when they have subfolders. Krusader's tree view is unaffected.3. The QApt graphical package installer reports missing dependencies when there are none. The same package can be installed fine on the command line.Unfixed:1. Krusader's right click menu shows duplicate entries to compress and extract archives.2. Plasmashell pins a CPU core and is slow to respond for about a minute after installing or updating anything. It also occurs on the first reboot after such an install. Feels like it is rebuilding a cache of some sort. 24.04 may have improved this a little, but not resolved.

I'm starting to wonder just how much electricity is wasted by Windows. The fans on my work laptop spin all day with one or two cores pegged by some garbage system processes. The personal Ubuntu laptop next to it for music, podcasts, goofing off - fans never once spin up.

@djsumdog I did up until this year, switching it to ntfs. That was the only Linux native filesystem I know of to support >255 byte file names.

Somewhere between 2000 and 2004 I bought a domain name and some shared hosting. It was hosted in Hong Kong but later transferred to New York because of growing Chinese control. The original purpose is long gone. I keep it because it became my primary email address.Recently I have been thinking about using it for something, so I wanted to update the whois information. It still points to the house my dad lived at two decades ago. To do that I had to verify the email address used to register it.That email address was from the university I attended at the time. In 2004 it was converted into an 'alumni.' address. For the first time ever I needed to contact their support and ask for help.Even though it was Saturday, it took only six minutes for a response. They fixed it by changing the email address to the one currently used for billing, which is correct. So kudos to ICDSoft, the company I randomly choose all those years ago. :blobcatthumbsup:
