@feld That’s rough.I’m just trying to figure out a workaround for having another Mac that works flawlessly — it’s outlasted a number of Windows laptops we’ve had — but which has of course been designed to be obsolete years ago. I don’t think that first one that was brought back to life with a new harddrive will even run Garage Band, as crazy as that sounds.Really good computers are still WAY less useful when they can’t run certain remotely recent software.

@feld Looks like they have a very different approach for Canadian customers. We’re pushed to Amazon for orders, and those are all very specific sets of bags. No evident deals on mishmashed combos of other sets, etc.Still looks like a solid bet, though. Thanks again.

@lauren I readily admit, for every Tesla I see on the road I wonder if the driver is a Musk fan and assume it's at least likely.If I'd had a Tesla before Musk became Musk, I would 100% have returned it when his true self became evident. I cannot and will not support (or be thought to support) that kind of abhorrence. If that means going through the hassle of selling (back) "his" car, so be it.Plenty of other EVs out there to choose among, including sexy ones, with equivalent or better range.

@feld @lauren I've never quite been able to get myself to the point of not caring what others think. Not really, really.Not sure if it's sheer insecurity or a deep impostor syndrome issue (being a writer, that's of course ingrained in me). Maybe it's a me judging so expecting to be judged thing? But if my own take is that a person (or company) is an asshole, I simply won't want to support them. And thinking -- knowing -- that others feel the same, would prefer to not be thought to.

Decades after he's dead, may Tesla brands lose his stink as well?Who knows?But sensible or not, right now, Tesla (and other) branding can, and for some definitely does, carry implications of supporting certain politics and sentiments.

I'm just also -- dichotomy time -- of the opinion that what others think about you is none of your business.Like, one doesn't have the inherent right to know what others think of them.And I WANT to get to the point where i don't care about that (again, as a writer who's heard plenty of advice of the best way an artist can do their best work is by not caring what others think about it).Yet I do. Though maybe more in regard to politics? Hmm... 🤔

@feld @WhyNotZoidberg @lauren I definitely see that point. But right here and now, Musk is the figurehead of the company. Buying a Tesla will only be seen by him and likely by the Board purely as people buying the product and attributing it to leadership. So that keeps him in place.Avoiding support = declining sales = better chance of Musk getting ousted. If there’s a better way the public can affect that change, I’m all ears.

@kayeluvian I just heard on the Jon Stewart Weekly podcast that since Reagan came into power, something like $53 *trillion* from the economy has shifted from the lowest 90% of income earners to the top 1% or somesuch of investors.Like, just obscene amounts of money.Yet again and again, decade after decade, billionaire influencers will try to sell the public on it being those damn foreigners taking your jobs that are the reason you don’t have money.
