@0x3F i think the system76 is probably best in this space but the XPS is likely to be better build quality/hardware wise (you cannot beat the economies of scale difference). I've not yet tried the purism yet.

I'm going to slow roll some project & research updates over the next week or so... The one I am most eager to share is #votexx - a short paper on internet voting published at EVOTE-ID, with longer paper including UC Proof in progress.https://votexx.orghttps://eprint.iacr.org/2022/1212This is a cryptographic protocol introducing a ballot nullification mechanism ("hedgehog"). 1 / 2

The protocol allows you to use hedgehogs to toggle nullification (or flipped, etc). It's based off a secret you use to vote, so voting 'yes' has a secret that allows your 'yes' vote to be nullified. Hedgehogs can't vote for you and are limited to signaling the nullification toggle. The idea being, if you are coerced, to vote a certain way, you can signal a hedgehog to nullify that. This "signal" could be not signaling (dead-man switch) or presence of your vote. happy to discuss!2/2

Fellow Americans, PLEASE don't forget to #vote in the #election tomorrow. If in a long line, get some #pizza: https://polls.pizza/https://ballotpedia.org will have your ballot, but your state website might be best. #Massachusetts 's is here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/WhereDoIVoteMA/WhereDoIVoteIf you have any trouble or see anything shady, start with your local candidate as they most likely will know who to call and have poll watchers available. FBI and DOJ also take election fraud reports.

So #Massachusetts is getting sued for getting #google to surreptitiously install the #COVID tracing app: https://nclalegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Complaint_Wright-with-Exhibit.pdfDoing this without consent is, among other things, a massive trust and #privacy violation. What a nightmare.. what else have they installed without consent?

@fsf Is there an explainer somewhere on why replicant comes the closest? My understanding was the differences between this and Lineage/Graphene/Calyx were phone support and security update approaches? I'd also love to see something that addresses purism, e.foundation, etc. The projects are out there but there is not a lot of discussion about the differences.

@tek I think we're in for an overcorrection the other direction in 3-4 years but it really depends on if they end up pushing us into a recession or not. If they don't then things juts mellow out by then.. This guy is essentially saying inflation is going to be difficult to control for a much longer period of time and I don't believe it.

Some wildly unethical "economics" research: https://www.karlstack.com/p/yale-university-vows-to-geolocate-aa2I am in shock they got this through an IRB! They de-anonymized a decade of forum posts on a jobs&discussion site for economists... Some of these folks are in countries where they could be killed for what they posted. #privacy #anonymity #ethics

I can't stress enough how unethical this #ejmr research paper appears to have been. When you do this kind of work against a service, you follow a principle called responsible disclosure. That means you give notice to the victim what you found, and you give them a chance to fix it. The researchers here do not seem to have provided any notice. The authors should not be in academia, #yale should be ashamed, and #nber should retract this.
