@stux I'd say, #twitter is too understaffed to handle the human aspect of that feature.https://home.social/@raccoon/109565947786266213

So, #Twitter is no longer providing free access to its API now?Question: what would prevent anyone from simply downloading the official #birdsite app for #android and ripping the API keys right out of the APK?https://raccoon.onyxbits.de

@stux Once he makes it essentially only usable with payment, the site is dead.Social media only ever worked by capturing the masses and the masses won't pay.

🧵 [1 / 12]Well, #Twitter published it's "the algorithm" [1] . And there are a couple of things to say about it. So, let's do a thread to break it down for the non technical folks.(This is also a nice opportunity to test run the thread creator component of the #Mastodon client, I'm currently working on).

🧵 [6 / 12]the true beneficiary of this is the #SEO #ASO crowd, getting an opportunity to expand into a new field - that is, if anyone is actually still interested in getting invested into the birdsite (if you want to believe that Elon Musk plays 5D chess, that would probably his gambit here).

🧵 [1 / 10]So, #Twitter's logo is now a dog. The Doge Coin logo to be more precise. What can we say about that? Let's make a thread!

@rolle Look at it the other way around: if Twitter was a major driver for customers to your business, then your business would depend on Twitter. Even in good times, it would be a good idea to diversify away from that.

@jdasher Quote Tweeting is a controversial feature that causes a lot of harm on Twitter. In a nutshell, QT allows you to "steal" a discussion over to your timeline and potentially make the original poster look like a fool to your followers. And yes, you are correct, "recentering" the conversation is one of the ideas behind how Fedimeister implements quoting.

Hm, just got a #Matrix invite link, opted for one of the #web clients to check it out, then the welcome screen tells me that communication is end to end encrypted.Uhm yes. E2E #encryption in a hosted application? How does that work without key escrow? Not to mention that I can't register anonymously. So either my email provider, Telco, #Google, #Microsoft,... can hack into my account. Can't recommend this service if #privacy is a concern.

🧵 [1 / 15]So, #Bluesky is all the hype now and a lot of #Mastodon people are falling for the olde "invite link" trick which not only paints, what is ultimately going to be another social media shitshow, as an exclusive club, but also sneakily turns everyone's curiosity into a vessel for word-of-mouth advertisement to ride piggy back on.Well, maybe the AT Protocol is at least better than #ActivityPub. So, since it is on #Github [1] , let's have a quick look and ... Aww shit! Thread time..

🧵 [1 / 15]So, we jumped from #Twitter to #Mastodon, after a man with a sink showed us how fragile centralized platforms really are. And now there's #Bluesky wanting to convince us that their AT Protocol is even more robust than #ActivityPub. But is it really superior and would it have been better to build the #fediverse on top of this protocol, instead?Thread time!

🧵 [12 / 15]Bluesky distinguishes two layers: speech and reach [2]#speech-reach-and-moderation . That is, you can say everything you want in your PDR, but you won't necessarily find an audience for it, because Bluesky wants to control the indexers, required for content discovery. Technically, it is an open ecosystem. Everyone could setup such an indexer and users could choose freely. But in reality the cards are stacked against that. The whole "invite link" thing, for example,

🧵 [1 / 7]When #Bluesky says "Protocols, not platforms", they intent two things:1. Grabbing people's attention by telling them what they want to hear.2. Presenting the AT Protocol as an alternative to #ActivityPub to capitalize on the current hype around #Mastodon, the #Fediverse and decentralized social media in general. The two protocols are not equal solutions for the same problem and, in fact, AT is not even a (communication) protocol to begin with.

@zleap AT stands for "Authenticated Transfer" it is a method to move a user's content around in clouds and being to recognize it by cryptographic methods, when location and/or user handle changes.
