From my understanding the 4500 is a 4600G with a disabled iGPU. And of the popular CPUs, it's closest in specs to the 3600, but is a monolithic chip rather than a chiplet design. And it's only got 8MB of L3 cache instead of 32MB cache. So it should in the best case have 3600-ish performance when the extra cache isn't needed, but can be a bit slower than the 3600 when the extra cache would've been useful

Anyways, it'll be nice to have a "gaming cube" connected to my bedroom TV rather than relying on a steam deck, even if it's definitely overkill.I paid 4964kr (~$380 equiv. after removing VAT) for a case, motherboard, 500W PSU, AX200 WiFi, 6-core CPU, 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe StorageIt's amazing how much computer you can get for your money when the previous generation and socket is dying. Even if there's no GPU in the price above.

@kkarhan Here in Norway the office PC + LP GPU stuff is just long dead.8+ years ago you'd find stuff like HP SFF machines with i5-3470s and i7-3770s in them for cheap. But for ages no just about every company in Norway has been using laptops + docking stations. So the used office desktop market is just dry as a bone.

@kkarhan Norway's used market is shit in the first place because the used market for enterprise stuff is typically entirely B2B.A company would sell all their e-waste in bulk to a company like Arrow. And then Arrow would only resell it to other companies or schools. So used enterprise hardware has typically been inaccessible to private individuals. From my understanding it's because selling to a consumer means consumer protections, so companies just decide that consumers won't get anything

@kkarhan Add to this the fact that modern LP GPUs are pretty crap and this combo is pretty much dead here and has been for ages.I used to have an SFF machine with an i7-2600 iirc, then i slapped some random quadro GPU i found at a dump into it. Good times.

@lanodan at least it's not degenerate power, you don't want to feed that to your computer, never ends well

I got the parts and finished deshrouding my GPU, and I swapped the ATX power supply that came with the DeskMeet for a be quiet! SFX one so there's a bit more space inside the thing. Now the RX 6600 is cooled by an NF-A12x15 instead of the two 90mm fans it came with.I also had to open a PSU for the first time to reverse the fan in it, which felt a bit sketch but I managed to not die.

I haven't gotten the CRJ Micro to standard 4-pin adapter though. So for now the fan is plugged into the motherboard instead and set to 55% fan speed. It's much quieter, but also runs a little bit hotter than the stock fans so I might have to bump the speed a bit until I get the adapter, then the fan should hopefully be controlled by the GPU itself.

@not_benis Well that sucks. Hopefully I don't kill mine because I'm just buying some pre-made cable from china: https://www.amazon.com/CRJ-4-Pin-Adapter-Sleeved-Graphics/dp/B07Q5BTTDX

@not_benis Sounds more like you maybe blew some sort of fuse that was on the card's fan controller to avoid dumping power into a stuck fan motor or something

If there's one thing I don't like about Noctua it's their packaging. Most of their stuff come in comically oversized boxes filled with tons of empty space because everything is spaced excessively and there's plastic windows or doors on their fans as well.I'm not even someone who cares much about it from an environmental standpoint, it's just annoying. If I order 6 fans or something, the resulting pile of plastic-coated cardboard packaging I have to deal with ends up being as huge as my entire PC.What makes it more annoying is that other products are already packaged "properly" inside of the marketing-approved box.

And come on, it's Noctua. If there's one brand known for being function over form, it's them. If there's one computer brand out there who should be able to ship their products in space efficient brown cardboard boxes with only the necessary and mostly monochrome printing on them, it's Noctua.

@lanodan In terms of size noctua already makes proper packaging for their iPPC line. And I'm quite certain they could've fit the accessories underneath the fan if they wanted, as under the cardboard sides holding the fan in place there's mostly empty space. Maybe make the packaging a few mm thicker if needed.I have no issues with the accessories they include, that's great. The problem is that they package things so the inside of the box is mostly air.

@lanodan You can also take a look at this fan rebrand online: https://packagingoftheworld.com/2023/01/noctua-rebrand.htmlI don't necessarily agree with it. Seems weird to stack cardboard rather than fold it and in general the design is way to "gamer-y" for Noctua. But it's still much closer to the kind of packaging I'd expect and want from Noctua.Personally I also consider be quiet!'s packaging to be better than Noctua.

@lanodan Depends on product. For most of Noctua's products I guess they need some packaging. For example due to their material choice the NF-A12 fan's blades are quite brittle and could break easily if hit.But yes, some of Noctua's procuts come in big boxes despite really not needing it.For example Noctua ships their thermal compound in a stupidly big ass box. While thermal grizzly is doing just fine sticking their thermal paste in a zip-lock bag.Noctua straight up gives you like a third of a liter worth of cardboard box (multiple of them even, both inner and outer paper) just to transport 3.5g of paste.

@lanodan It's hard to see in the image just how stupid it is, but the packaging for Noctua's NT-H1 paste is 157x70x30mmFor reference, a 3.5" HDD from WD is 147mm x 101.6mm x 26.1mm.Noctua's packaging is so oversized that if you shorten it 1cm and widen it by 3cm it's basically the same size as an entire 3.5" hard drive, and they use that massive amount of volume to ship you nothing but 3.5g of grey paste. (plus the syringe containing it)

@besserwisser @nachtrabe @wolf480pl Your dial likely is a thermostat or just entirely busted. If you for example set it to 4 it should go full power for quite a while, maybe hours, then turn off when it reaches whatever that number equates to.
