@BarrenPlanet @RDHale Weirdly we have politicians with 'beliefs' rather than politicians with a basic moral code and the brains to search out what works in other places and adapt it to our situation. People who 'believe' drugs are bad, sex work is bad, basic income is bad, housing the homeless is bad are undermining our society.

@lowqualityfacts That's nothing. The northernmost part of the Republic of Ireland ie 'the south' is further north than ALL of northern Ireland.

@EU_Commission I imagine the percentage improved dramatically once this septic isle left the EU.

@rms Become so popular here (UK) that farms now rear domesticated 'wild boar'. In mainland Europe the genuinely wild animals are more common in forests where they are hunted.

@quixoticgeek 'No-one talks about the profitability of the motorway network.'We already have one privately owned motorway, the M6 Toll, and many tunnels and bridges that charge tolls. It's more likely this profit obsessed government will authorise more toll roads than make public transport free.

@lightweight It's government attitudes I find most baffling. They have the scale and the budget to employ their own FOSS developers to create systems designed for their needs. They, we, own the universities with their comp sci departments to train up new developers and lower down the food chain the colleges to train users, technicians etc. But they, we, prefer to throw money at foreign corporations who supply a generic solution that's not quite what we need at huge cost.

@EU_Commission So if the UK hadn't left the EU I could "take back control"© of my phone and tab from Alphabet/Google. But thanks to Brexit freedoms Google are free to control my phone and tab. Next time some smooth talking politician offers you a referendum on something you know nothing about, stay home. Brexit was caused by the devious misleading the gullible.

@eric Not necessarily, even though I've read 'prerogative' loads of times and heard it on TV and radio in my head it's still 'perogative' because that's how my dad said it. And he had got it from reading, but not well! He also struggled with Celtic, the football club and Celtic the ethnic group.

@hyde @nfoert Those old wm take me back. When Google started pushing Chromebooks I sort of built one for a magazine piece using an old PC running Linux and (I think) fluxbox and Chrome browser (the only app) set to run automatically as soon as the wm was ready.

@triodug Ref cat opening doors, my bro used to try to keep dogs out of their front room, but every day he came home after work there were 3 dogs asleep on the sofas. One day he was WFH and saw the dogs queue by the door. The cat opened it and went back to its basket in the dog-free kitchen.

@davidoclubb Can you explain why in an era where blackface is unacceptable and we have to be wary of cultural appropriation and misogyny, drag is not only acceptable but popularised by the BBC? I just don't get it.

@hehemrin Indefinitely if you want a regular car from one of the big manufacturers. Your only hope might be if someone designs a conversion kit based on commercial industrial motors and controllers that use #foss

@futurebird But assuming you are measuring water then 200mL weighs about 200g and 8oz is about 224g, so that.
