@Ricardus The USN search team put out a report stating basically they picked up sound signatures consistent with an implosion in the area where they found the debris field at the same time MV Polar Prince lost contact with Titan, suggesting the pressure hull failed. I think that's about as far as any org is going to go - it was a shoddily-built craft operating in international waters.

Found an old DVD-based DVR that also supports VHS playback over HDMI. Now I need to find a way to transmit a DTV signal...If I understand correctly, most of the modern modulators only accept IP transported inputs, which means I'd also have to be able to convert the HDMI output from the DVR. Most of this equipment seems to be ruinously expensive still, unlike conventional NTSC broadcast equipment (I bought my second-hand Blonder Tongue AP for like 40 bucks)Anyone have any ideas?

Why are all the nice #woodworking planes stuck over in the UK? I'd really like to try out working with hand tools but it seems the modern stuff is all either hot garbage or more expensive than power tools, and the quality, decent-priced older tools are on other continents.

@Ricardus a guilty pleasure of mine is watching old cop shows. Procedurals like Dragnet, detective shows like Columbo, even police dramas like Kojak.The pleasure part is the escapism into a world where the police as an institution are a force for good. Joe Friday is going to follow a just SOP in his investigation, Columbo will keep even the rich and powerful accountable, Kojak will always try to balance the law towards justice.The guilty part is knowing it's all copaganda.

@Ricardus specifically old cop shows, because modern cop shows are a different kind of copaganda - the old stuff is meant to convince you that cops are normal working folks and a force for good, whereas modern cop shows seem to be more interested in convincing you the police are a necessary evil because of how awful everyone else is.

@Ricardus knowing the true stories that inspired some of those episodes of Dragnet and Kojak, I think the only thing that has changed is how much more the police are paid and how much more positively the public-at-large perceives them.
