RCMP conduct pre-dawn raids on Wet’suwet’en land defender camps"The first officers — many armed with tactical gear — began making arrests before 5 a.m. local time, removing journalists from the site and cutting off Wet’suwet’en radio communications, people in the camps said in reports posted to social media."https://www.nationalobserver.com/2020/02/06/news/rcmp-begin-pre-dawn-raids-wetsuweten-land-defender-camps#indigenousrights #firstnations #climatechange #climatecrisis #climatestrike #strike4climate #xr #fridays4future #climatejusticenow #divest #StopTheMoneyPipeline

"And for Canada, the latest results are terrible. The new data show that in 2018, our annual emissions rose yet again. This time, by a depressingly large 15 million tonnes of CO2 (MtCO2). As my chart below shows, we are now emitting 729 MtCO2 per year — our highest level in more than a decade."https://www.nationalobserver.com/2020/05/29/opinion/canadas-emissions-rise-yet-again-can-we-please-adopt-uk-carbon-budget-law-now#climatechange #climatecrisis #ClimateStrikeOnline #xr #fridaysforfuture #divest

UN reportMay 6"natural gas won’t help the world avoid climate catastrophe. Once seen as a “bridge fuel” ... growing evidence shows that gas is a bigger culprit in the climate crisis than previously thought."“natural” gas, the fuel is primarily plain old methane.“One thing the report calls for very strongly is not building any more of this fossil fuel infrastructure,”https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/6/22422824/natural-gas-infrastructure-methane-emissions-climate-change-air-pollution#ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #ClimateStrike #xr #FridaysForFuture #divest #StopTMX #stopCGL

@stux My experience on mastodon.social: haven't seen any have, very little deliberate antogonism, cursing has not been too bad, and any NSFW has been click-to-show. Unlike Zuck's and the bird feed, where the experience for me has been a lot more mixed.

@Zach777 I've used GnuCash for my small business for just over a decade (donate every year). It's been good for me. One downside is that it doesn't (didn't?) do automated employee payment calculations. They can be entered manually though. Also, for clearing bad debts there is a workaround which is a bit clunky (I may be missing the proper way to do it). Overall, it's great. Does what I need. Haven't used others though so can't say if it's the best FOSS option.

First impressions of #pinephone : -on the not-updated manjaro/kde, changing the time-out on screen blanking... a bug made the screen go black after once second. Fixed in the terminal while hooked up to the 'convergence' adapter.-navigating between apps and typing in the terminal on manjaro/kde was not great, so decided to try out a weekly mobian/phosh image. Still rough around the edges but better.-got mobile data working. The guy at the store didn't give me the apn setting for my carrier.

To say mobian was better (run from sd card), I was comparing it to an not-updated manjaro, so not a fair comparison. I hope to have the time to test out several distros, including updating manjaro. So far this phone seems usable for the basics. Beta = bugs (obviously). Faint praise I know, but I'm still stoked to have a _real_ linux phone. I'll continue to play and test until I decide whether it can become my daily driver. That day may come sooner than later if my current daily driver dies.

#pinephone The shipped (and not updated) manjaro/plasma was laggy and very buggy. I recently tried a weekly build of mobian/phosh, which was very laggy. Decided to try the latest manjaro/plasma (beta11) and it's improved a lot (lag&bugs). Still some lag but it might be tolerable. in my limited testing. So freaking cool to have a real Linux OS on a mobile.

@redfrog Privacy is a concern for me, but the amount of concentrated _power_ that the largest Big Tech firms have is scary to me. Power corrupts.
