First impressions of #pinephone : -on the not-updated manjaro/kde, changing the time-out on screen blanking... a bug made the screen go black after once second. Fixed in the terminal while hooked up to the 'convergence' adapter.-navigating between apps and typing in the terminal on manjaro/kde was not great, so decided to try out a weekly mobian/phosh image. Still rough around the edges but better.-got mobile data working. The guy at the store didn't give me the apn setting for my carrier.

To say mobian was better (run from sd card), I was comparing it to an not-updated manjaro, so not a fair comparison. I hope to have the time to test out several distros, including updating manjaro. So far this phone seems usable for the basics. Beta = bugs (obviously). Faint praise I know, but I'm still stoked to have a _real_ linux phone. I'll continue to play and test until I decide whether it can become my daily driver. That day may come sooner than later if my current daily driver dies.

@paulrr I have mine running mobian. If I only used SMS, MMS and PSTN it would be perfect. Unfortunately, I use more than that (mainly XMPP and Signal). While I have those working on there, they aren't compatible with the PinePhone's sleep mode. Until that's resolved, the PinePhone will just be a neat novelty I keep around

@quinn64 A PinePhone or PinePhone Pro that lasts a day without sleep mode is sadly not compatible with the laws of physics - the SoC's are just to power hungry/the batteries are just too small. There are scripts that wake up the device regularily to make the delay in notifications less off an issue: https://codeberg.org/Silmathoron/pinephone-autowakeI personally don't care about missing notifications (so I did not try this), but maybe this could help making it work for you? 🙂 @paulrr

@linmob I've known about those kinds of scripts and setups. Unfortunately, it doesn't really help. I need to reliably recieve calls through XMPP and Signal, which that doesn't really help with. From what I understand, Chatty and NetworkManager will need to be designed to work with the SCP so they can stay active in sleep mode

@quinn64 Ok, yeah. Calls make it basically impossible, I understand.

@quinn64 Except maybe if you were to use a humongous battery case, but... yeah, I actually don't use them either. https://tilvids.com/w/w3qXbr31SE21jGxnM8A1r7

@linmob I've been thinking about buying those. A physical keyboard would be nice. Once Signal and XMPP support are more solid, it will be easier to justify investing in it. Right now, I'm running a Pixel 3a setup with CalyxOS
