@futurebird We used to have an ad director who put up various quotes on the wall one was “50% of advertising works. But we don’t know which ads are in that to%” I’m paraphrasing of course.

@futurebird one issue is whether ads are intrusive. While I find web advertising very intrusively there are some ads, eg banner ads every 2 paragraphs, more intrusive than others. I find magazine ads much less intrusive, with the except of those horrible ads that include perfume scents, than web ads. Product placement in moves can be inattrusive but more insidious. Gas pump ads, a crime against humanity.

@futurebird In that point of the Bible there was no devil. I believe he was called the Adversary and he was supposed to challenge G-d. The bookend of Job are not the meat. The arguments are and Job was altered over time to meet political needs. See Robert Alter’s translation.

@funambolo @futurebird according to Alter the writing of Job is beautiful but the style is different from other books making up the Bible. But the beginning and end are just setup. The meat is the discussions Job has with his friends and the involvement of the Adversary—a position G-d created and assigned—isn’t that important. Most people seem to concentrate on on what was done to Job, that he stood with G-d, and that Job was rewarded in the end.

@futurebird I remember our 1 trip to Ikea at Potomac Mills. Besides buying the Swedish meatballs we also bought a large long dragon stuffie for my son. I'm sure we bought some furniture but I can't remember what.

@futurebird I use Listerine before flossing. Always pick one with the ADA seal on it, I get the nonalcohol version. Then I floss. The brush. The use ACT for floride and don’t eat and avoid drinking so floride has time to work on teeth. ACT for kids bubblegum or watermelon flavor. The kids version has the ADA seal on it, the adult version doesn’tI can’t find ADA approved toothpaste anymore. Some other org seems to have taken over.

@futurebird @catmisgivings I’ve always loved maps of dialects in the US, especially because NYC has so many different ones, probably more than any state.

@futurebird I also have the 15 Pro. I don’t like anything larger, I would have to replace my pants because a larger phone wouldn't fit into my phone pockets. I didn’t realize that the 17 had a weight difference. I wonder if that is the result from changes to make it run cooler.Do you think there is any validity of my theory on why some phones get dropped? Bad pants pockets that don't hold the phone well. Which puts women at a disadvantage.

@futurebird Not really anything new. With Tesla you have to pay extra for greater range despite it is just flipping a digital switch and no mechanical difference. One high end car company charges a subscription for seat warmer. GM is eliminating CarPlay and Android Auto because they want subscription income. Even my Subaru will want money after 3 years for Internet connectivity but while it seems overprice also seems more reasonable in that this is a service.

@futurebird Arlington VA has a similar program. It is also used to train people in bike repair, some of whom might be able to work in bike repair.

@futurebird @aeveltstra I head a group where I have do to a mailing of at least once a month and the list needs to be confidential so I can't cc everyone. And a bcc everyone will result in nondelivery in many cases. A free MailChimp account is all I need.Hmmm, now I am wondering about dmarc setup to ensure deliverability.

@futurebird As part of the dementia caregiver community I recommend to to couples that each one can do the work of the other, but especially women. I've encountered women in their 50s caring for a husband who have never walked into a bank or written a check in their life. They've have to jump into taking over finances and getting a job with no background. Bad things can happen to your spouse. This includes legal documents that some people refuse to create until they are on their death bed.

@futurebird Leaving aside divorce, since people promoting this view want to make divorce illegal consider:1. What if hubby gets dementia.2. What if hubby gets hit by a bus.3. What if hubby dies from aneurysm.A spouse with dementia can destroy family finances. The uninvolved spouse will have no warning that all money is gone.I know husbands who had secret bank accounts and when they died no one knew where the money was. All because women shouldn’t be involved.

@futurebird @MCDuncanLab It makes me wonder if the "trad wife" movement agrees with some feminists. That women really don't want to be with men so you have force them to be with men for financial reasons.
