I was very alarmed by the idea that people could edit posts on here when I moved from Twitter years ago. So, in my settings I put on every single alert for a post being edited. It's the only thing that makes the mastodon app make noise on my computer. A nice little "ding ding" sound. I hear it very rarely and I'm always excited to see what spelling error is being corrected. 😆 (Darkly: Posts and their corrected versions would be a killer training set for a nice tame spelling LLM)

@not2b Does facebook indicate when a post has been edited and let you see the previous version?If not? I'd say that isn't helping them with their many intractable problems.

@futurebird Clearly, you don't follow me, because I edit posts *constantly*. I usually only notice a typo after I've posted. And it bothers me, so I have to fix it. And then as I re-post, I see the other typo that I didn't spot the first time...

@futurebird Yeah, I remember before Twitter added edits as a premium feature, there was a fair amount of chatter about the spam/scam/disinformation potential. I still see I raised whenever there’s a wave of edit button longing on Bluesky. I think it’s good red-team thinking, but between notifications/history here and putting behind the paywall/time-limiting it on Twitter (pre-Musk, anyhow; I don’t know what they do now), it seems like the real world abuses are rare. I’ve only seen on problematic edit here, and it was a prank.
