       @tante I'm am engineer and the idea to pick more or less quirky problems, instead doing what needs be done in the projects on my desk, seems alien. Does a relevant number of software devs have that autonomy?

       @emilygorcenski war. the nazis always where brutal murderers, but they greately radicalized themselves during the war.Contemporary fash are inspired by historical nazis but the conditions today are different.

       @tante not sure. Every time i looked closer at lesswrong/ea/ssc and similar fandoms or cults, i found that women are quite aktive there, just far less visible. Maybe same here?Wonder if there's a hashtag womeninai on the birdsite

       @tante i'm old enough to remember data mining as the big problematic thing. Afaik data mining is reproducible & requires less power, while also laundering bias.  "statistical thing with ascribed agency" could describe DM (maybe not -agency?). Llm amd DM are different enough to deserve their own terms, no?
