I miss the old days. The days when the government was afraid of the people. Afraid of the power that they had.

Remember, friend's. SQL Injection references are fun but don't put them on the cards you include when sending flowers to your Valentine. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to explain to my local florist why the flowers I'm sending to my wife crashed their point-of-sale system.

Apparently Apple announced yesterday that Safari will not trust SSL certificates with a validity of more than 398 days. Keep that in mind when renewing certificates.

Google Fi's terms are insane. You have to agree to let them pass all your data over a vpn to Google's network.All. Your. Data. They say it's to "enhance your privacy and security."There is no privacy or security when sending all your data to the worlds biggest privacy violator.

Since DNS over HTTPS is a thing today, here's a quick FYI...The ISPs are on to DoH and are offering their own DoH servers "for your convenience." Make sure you know what your connecting to when using DoH, otherwise you might find yourself giving your browsing information right back to Comcast.

@feld I, personally, won't use either of them. Cloudflare is just as evil as Comcast/Xfinity or Charter/Spectrum. But then, Google and Facebook are also offering up DoH. I'm sure someone at Apple is working feverishly to get DoH into Apple's ecosystem as well. The layperson isn't going to be able to do anything about this. At its core, DoH is just another bullshit service to give people the illusion of security and privacy.I guess the whole point of my post was, if you're going to use DoH, know where your queries are going. Don't fall for the false sense of security.

@thegibson @kemonine f1 instances from GCP are free forever...They're small, but if you need a quick sandbox for a simple PoC, you're not going to get a better deal.

Wait. Someone actually sued YouTube because they weren't allowed to say something?Let's be clear here...The first amendment does not give you free speech. It prohibits the Government from telling you what you can and cannot say.If YouTube takes down a video where you're spouting off stupidity, they aren't denying you your first amendment rights. They're stopping an idiot from lowering the average intelligence level of the user base.If an admin on fediverse blocks a gab site, they're not stifling free speech, they telling a group of fucking dumbasses that their shit isn't welcome here.

@thegibson I just finished standing up a private Jitsi server for our employees. We're not going to mess around with the commercial providers since most aren't prepared for the onslaught of traffic.

I've never gotten into manga, so imagine my surprise today when I saw my oldest flipping the pages backwards in his latest book. I asked him what was up with that and he showed me the "first" page of the book that says "Start from the back."What the hell is that all about? Anyone? Now, if you'll excuse me, it's Wednesday and I have a fresh pull list to get through.

Microsoft: Here at Microsoft, we believe in giving the User agency to do what they want with our products. By providing freedom, we believe our users will be more innovative. Also Microsoft: You can't install this operating system without either giving us complete access to your usage and activity, or giving us a pile of money. We would prefer both.

CTO: Hey, I have some extra cycles. Do I have a log-in to the AWS accounts? I want to play with some stuff.Me: What is your title, again?CTO: Uh, CTO?Me: Right. What's my rule?CTO: Uhm, "leadership gets graphs, not access." But, I'm not going to break anything.Me: No.CTO: Listen, I just want to play with some stuff. Don't make me pull rank.Me: You have no authority here. This rule is in place to prevent outages and minimize security risks.CTO: Yes, but...Me: BTW, I added a new data source to Splunk.CTO: Really? Oh, I wonder what information I can glean from that. I should go play with that.Me: Yes, yes you should.Listen to me, people. Never, ever give leadership access to your environments. Even if it's just a sandbox. You don't need that kind of trouble. Always keep an extra dataset or reporting tool handy to distract them with pretty pictures when they get fidgety.
