I've never gotten into manga, so imagine my surprise today when I saw my oldest flipping the pages backwards in his latest book. I asked him what was up with that and he showed me the "first" page of the book that says "Start from the back."What the hell is that all about? Anyone? Now, if you'll excuse me, it's Wednesday and I have a fresh pull list to get through.

@neuromancer right to left language translated to English. They kept original layout instead of reordering the panels so you read it back to front. Kids in my family are into this too 🙃

@feld Huh. I did not know that some Asian languages were right to left. Thanks for this.

@neuromancer it also explains the NES/SNES controller button order being B A and Y X -- that order is logical for JapaneseIt took me only a year or so ago to have that realization dawn on me.American button order (Xbox) is left to rightJapanese button order (Nintendo) is right to leftAnd Sony went with symbols to avoid the confusion

@feld @neuromancer >And Sony went with symbols to avoid the confusionactually sony is even more confusing since circle = often means OK in japanese while X has more negative meaning, and that's how it works in japanese games and asian firmware of playstations. If you play game for american/european region X=confirm and O=back. It's extra confusing because it depends on the game AND the system, my PS Vita has some asian firmware which still has english language and it has O=confirm X=back, but in games that I play it's reversed X=confirm O=back.

@hj @feld @neuromancer soystation's original/JP layout mirrored that of Super Famicom (which it was originally meant to be an addon for), the export region change was unnecessary. That being said, „diamond” style button layout is uncomfortable and garbage.Use three/six buttons instead.

@hj @feld @neuromancer particularly on the :sega: Saturn given how many visual novels were released on there; having an extra hand available would've been very welcome :JahyHyper:

@guizzy @feld @hj @neuromancer yes, of course! Also to get more comfortable since those games seldom require you to employ action (but beware - 90s' visual novels that were released on the system were often hybrid systems with either point and click adventure games, time management games, strategy RPGs or even light gun shooters; the format was dumbed down mostly in the 2000s)
