@dick_turpin I just switched to the Tusky app and it looks like it doesn't have a federated timeline at all. 😳

@penguin42 It's also useful for accessing internal network hosts from both inside and outside the network using the same configuration. DNS just resolves the jump-host differently depending on where you are.

@dick_turpin Poor you, having to approach the domain holder and say "Your customer isn't happy with your management of his/her domains and wants you to transfer them to us!". Good luck. 😆

@alejandrobdn You're probably looking at one of the longtime players in the Open 3D Printer marketplace like LulzBot.Their machines are certainly premium and leaning towards the industrial label.

@penguin42 I wonder if that's the earliest example of a Chinese spelling error? At least it's an honest mistake that we could all make although proof-reading was once a thing.

@penguin42 Have you been told about the "Tell us once" service? It's very helpful for informing organisations en-masse about someone's passing.

@dick_turpin I suppose the ultimate way to avoid speed awareness courses and points on your licence is to become a cyclist. It seems cyclists can get away with anything and even get preferential treatment under the amended Highway Code rules. That said, I bet I'd be stopped within minutes of setting-off on a bicycle if I had a gunslip on my back in-spite of it being completely legal.

@dick_turpin Ever moreso when said missus is using Linux. I get this sort of thing often and have to remind mine that the bulk of her problems on Windows were related to printing not working.

@dick_turpin I thought most printers were supported nowadays, under CUPS, if they support the web printing protocol thingy.I've found the path of least resistance is to buy cheap HP AIO devices (currently have a 2630) and take the hit on having to buy genuine HP ink cartridges. On the plus-side the HPLIP and HPCUPS drivers are very good (I even use PDF as the printer format) and you, effectively, fit new printheads when you change a cartridge.

@dick_turpin For the IPP protocol I believe the preferred submission format is PDF. If you were previously using Postscript that might explain it.

@dick_turpin I suppose oldies like us received different training and gaining confidence was part of it.I recall my managers sending me out, on my own, to do jobs they didn't want to do. I (we?) just took it in our stride. We should consider that youngsters don't get this sort of training these days and hand-holding is a consequence. Not necessarily their fault though.

@dick_turpin I see the Twitter mentality mostly about retweets and following en-mass. On Twitter this can happen through making noise while on [the fediverse] here you achieve those based on merit.I also saw a lot of posts from people wanting to "make Mastodon the new Twitter" which isn't going to happen in a month of Sundays. Changing an already existing culture on-a-whim won't work.I see droves returning to Twitter as soon as Musk hands the reins over to someone else despite the changes.

@dick_turpin This is why I like to live in my own technical bubble. Don't get me wrong, I can communicate stuff to technically less-literate people but I feel it's pointless. People should be willing to learn something about the technology they use day-to-day otherwise life becomes a large series of questions.
