@futurebird @baldur As with other edgy software (hi-res graphics, scamcoyn mining),Artificial Ignorance is compute-intensive, so benefits from expensive monster clusters, or a specialized parallel numeric co-processor (GPU card(s), or a different SIMD chip). It's still consuming electricity and generating heat pointlessly, but enough less of it that it's considered practical (despite being hilariously wrong all too often).

@futurebird @mansr @paulc yes. Using groups, pages, & notifications, it is possible to self-curate a decent experience on the FB πŸ”₯site, with the help of the group mods. (And i also do some of the latter.) I used to say the same of πŸ”₯🐦Xhitter; and Lists and Communities are still useful there; "For You" still is half-decent (creepilly accurate!), but they're actively making it difficult to avoid seeing the promoted bumph before/between. (I've locked down and rarely visit as needed.)

@foone that you have so _few_ transactions for nearly 10 years on that one drive may explain why redbox has ceased to be, has joined the parrot eternal. (one rental per day is par for an AirBNB, but unless their costs were really really low that's very bad retail.)

@futurebird practice, and at least with the early ones that required training user along with recognizer, prolonged monotone voice could result in straining the vocal cords, which is even worse socially than straining wrists. I do know of a novelist who is (was?) mostly dictating via speech to text. (As well as a programmer who was working via speech to text!)

@BakerRL75 @ai6yr @j "Kiss and Ride" was traditional with NYC's heavy-rail commuter suburbs 1920s-1960s. Housewives would drop their husbands at the town train-station β€” or more likely, slide over to the driver's seat after kiss and he gets out! β€” and pick them up in the evening. (Yes, very sexist back then: wives didn't work, or if they did, they mostly didn't commute but did so locally.)

@futurebird interesting!(Aside: *Historically* speaking, a 5th & 6th Boro' case could be made for Pavonia/Bergen, New Netherland (Dutch East Jersey) and Nassau County L.I.. Whether metro area planning would be more rational were it so is a different question. And sitting here in Boston where what metro planning we had had was splintered for reasons, I'm not in a position to comment.)

@foone πŸ‘πŸ»(I've only seen it used when professional QA staff took care of those tests.) Having a sever|browser unbiased base libraries would have much flexibility.

@futurebird a quick scan with English dictionary words finds exactly one triple that work as a hexadecimal sum.BED + BE = CAB Many school districts/admins would frown upon double entendre invited by BED + 12₁₆ = BED + 18₁₀ = BFF (but at least it reserves adultery for adults?)

@foone "All ones manchester" negates the PSK nature of the encoding. Do they mean no keying of the 915MHz carrier, or square-wave modulated at some unstated bitrate?
