@BeAware I kind of get this on the level of being afraid to create/share art because even IF it's not AI, most of the time I make digital art it's hard to describe/do alt text for (being inherently visual and abstract/psychedelic "bring your own interpretation") + I have a nuanced take regarding AI (e.g. fine with it as long as it's not sexual imagery or passed off as non-AI art) so people might accuse me of using it anywayI will say the attitude of defining True Art can get really frustrating

@BeAware Ugh, personally I wouldn't do that for my own ethical reasons (e.g. I am aware of the concerns raised and try to respect them as much as possible - I don't think it's a good idea to take a flippant attitude toward people with legitimate concerns, if that makes sense?)But I can understand how you might feel that way being through the experiences you have, if that makes sense.

@futurebird Ugh yeah, especially with weather/disaster stuff stock footage (especially recognizable from something like storyblocks etc) is a huge red flag for this spammy nonsense for me *because* there's so much footage out there that's either completely free OR that could be used for not that much money than you'd use FOR a stock footage site (e.g. paying a storm chaser for video)

@BeAware argh, get that too well, have had it happen both online and off - it's annoying to point out a problem, have actual, workable solutions (multiple ones that you can point the person to) and then they get angry for whatever reason (that they feel you've piled more onto their plate even if it's something that will only get worse if ignored, that they didn't think of/notice it but you're there to get mad at, etc)

That's what I'm trying to do with my posts - not "hug it all out" but also caution people about doing/saying things that will hurt themselves and the antifascist/anti-trump movement *and* boost the war narrative the trumpers want, just because they want to look hardof course I'll *still* probably get a few people blocking me thinking I've gone lib but I just want to keep people alive, not-incarcerated, not surveilled, etc

@futurebird Too often (especially white, straight, etc) people can't see an obvious, direct, historical parallel (or won't see it) until it's too late. To me, those signs were yet another step over the moral event horizon.And I wish the mainstream media that most people take their knowledge from would take this far more seriously than just as a political horserace.

@futurebird I think it's sadly for a few reasons.Primary one is that the Republicans (the other major duopoly party) don't like or need GOTV aside from rallies and churches. They'd rather "push" (suppress voters from anyone else using the power they already have to do so) than "pull" (active GOTV efforts that could go badly for them by, say, making people who like a local senator but loathe trump/vance show up)1/?

@futurebird I really don't buy the "lack of empathy as excuse," because empathy can be learned *and* there's some scenarios where Too Much empathy can lead someone to harmful actions/ideologies too (best example being how people got recruited into QAnon and similar shit *because* they cared deeply for their children/protecting children in general)

For everyone wondering where I was/is: I've mostly quit mastodon. Due to a variety of factors, but among them, generally being demoralized and burnt out and tired, worried about a lot of things, and some other issues.I've decided not to delete my account (for now) but I probably won't be very active here in the future.
