I'm glad those "Mass Deportation Now!" signs have made an impact. Many people are talking about it. But, I keep hearing a glaring error in the response. I hear: "immigration is part of who we are" Yes, but this isn't about "immigration" -- This is about *deportation* in order to deport someone they need to already be here.This is about deporting Americans. Which Americans? "Masses" of them. "Oh you known the ones" they might say. 1/

Let's deconstruct the sign word by word. "Mass"Huge numbers. Not selective. There are not "masses" of recent immigrants in the country. There are masses of undocumented Americans and other non-citizens. There are also masses of non-Christians, & non-whites."Deportation"To forcibly remove. Combined with mass this means systematic violence."Now"No chance of due process. Even though the constitution protects all PEOPLE not just citizens. 2/

@futurebird EXACTLY. People also need to note that advocating for "mass deportations" is LITERALLY A FUCKING NAZI DOCTRINE. The messaging should be that Republicans have, in this election, openly embraced the messaging and ideals of the third reich, itself.Of course everyone in the mass media is too scared to make that connection but it's RIGHT THERE. Ugh.

@mybarkingdogs I avoid saying it directly since a lot of people seem to shut down and stop listening to me when I point this out. *I* must be hysterical. I'm not the one with the "mass deportation now" signs. If calling this "nazi stuff" sounds "unhinged" or "hyperbolic" it's because what we are describing is that far out of the realm of what is humane.

@futurebird Too often (especially white, straight, etc) people can't see an obvious, direct, historical parallel (or won't see it) until it's too late. To me, those signs were yet another step over the moral event horizon.And I wish the mainstream media that most people take their knowledge from would take this far more seriously than just as a political horserace.

@futurebird It strongly reminds me of similar plans hatched by (parts of) the #AfD in Germany, that were uncovered earlier this year by the courageous work of @jean / @correctiv_org When that came out, it did make a dent in their popularity (although not as large as it should have) and led to renewed calls for a ban on the party (that could indeed still happen).

@futurebird yeah. I'm a non citizen Permanent Resident, and because of inordinate delays at the Immigration service I don't even have an unexpired greencard. I'm in the process of working out what country I'd prefer to end up in if I'm threatened with deportation, how to identify the right moment to leave before ICE gets directly involved, and making sure I have traveling documents.@mybarkingdogs
