@elithebearded @purple iirc, Yahoo hired actual librarians back in the day.

My favorite Pride earrings came from Walmart. My “Love Wins” t-shirt came from Michael’s. Right-wingers don’t seem to go after either of those places…I assume bc they shop there & don’t want to get banned. It’s all so stupid. Oh, and if you want high-quality Pride merch from a small Oklahoma business, not a rainbow-washing retail behemoth, shop Stewie: https://stewiesgotpride.com/

@grammargirl Just imagine the happiness of the teenage retro-tech collector who finds your gadgets at the thrift store!

@Wolven I am also sad that he outlived so many people who were good and kind and led meaningful lives.

@mikemathia This is in my town. The low-flying owls unfortunately migrated when a nearby church cut down some trees. I have no information on the chihuahua.

After AAA gets done I’m really tempted to just drive home, go back to sleep, and try again tomorrow

@BiscuitTaylor @haayman @bartholin This was on my phone--as long as the cursor was in the box, it wouldn’t go away. I had to memorize the code before tapping in the box to enter it.

@LibrarianRA I’m certain I had this at Thanksgiving dinner one year. And it also... looks kinda good?

Deleting your Facebook account is the privilege of those who don’t have kids in school, and don’t have to communicate with groups of people over 40. Instead, maybe we should be working with schools (pre-K through 16) and community organizations to help them find an effective mass communication platform that isn’t run by the worst people on the planet.

Look: If you just can't BELIEVE that school districts do this--even if it's the kind of thing where *official* communication takes place via email but the actual information that you need to know is in a Facebook group--then you have exactly the kind of privilege I'm talking about. Go enjoy it and accept that it's not the case for a LOT of us out here in the places that don't fund their public schools very well.

Also: "I don't believe this because it isn't MY experience" is such a lazy argument I don't even know where to start.

@futurebird @douglasvb I made a little video demonstrating how to use the Equation Editor in Word to create an equation that you could then copy as LaTeX and paste into H5P to create accessible equations! But afaict, I was the only one who was excited about this, except my direct report (who might have been humoring me).

@futurebird I took an online course through the institution I work for, and had to pay $90 for an interactive textbook that *only* works through the LMS. So you do all your work, and then have to abandon it at the end of the semester. There was a print option, but the docs it produced were terrible. And we only had access to lessons the instructor had enabled. I’m an LMS admin & manage the LMS support team; the experience must be even worse for others.

@futurebird A box of lint, in the early days of eBay. There was a whole website called “Who Would Buy That?” devoted to weird stuff on eBay.

@LibrarianRA Standard had the most beautiful ads. I used to collect them--the first one I found was my exact bathroom in my 1928 house, but most of their ads were more... uh... aspirational than realistic. 😄

@futurebird I usually go to one of the image sites instead of searching broadly--Pixabay & Adobe Stock (which I get free at work) both have filters for non-AI. But neither of those is likely to have the kind of historical artwork you’re looking for.

@LibrarianRA In my Ad Copy & Layout class in 1987, this is exactly the kind of look most of us were going for. It's the indented first lines that are cracking me up--that was a deliberate choice that somebody made.
