"Do you know why I pulled you over?" will be illegal in California from January 1, 2024. Now police have to tell you why they pulled you over. The idea is to stop pre-textual traffic stops, in which an officer pulls over a driver, usually Latino or African-American, intending to find a reason to search their vehicle for contraband. Flash mob heist: Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety released store surveillance video of a 20-people jewelry-store burglary on Wednesday. The targeted store was PNG Jewelers on El Camino. The police caught 5 of the burglars, so hopefully they can get to the mastermind behind the burglary. @jon @jmovs @anildash Yes, a law stating e.g. that tickets need to be sold to all trains servicing a station would make sense. You'd probably need some sort of SLA too, including that the org that oversees the station has to give other orgs access so they can install and service their vending machines. There may still be a risk that Trenitalia stops servicing some SNCF stations, depending on how their contract is written.

@jon @jmovs @anildash I could see selling tickets at the station counter as long as people pay by card. Based on my retail experience, cash would be much harder. That's because you have to count the cash in the drawer, to make sure it balances with what you've sold, at the end of your shift. No doubt the different railways are going to have different requirements. Some may even insist on separate cash drawers. Staff will avoid selling tickets if it means going home 5 minutes later.

@jon Do you have any experience working in retail? It doesn't really sound like it. Being responsible for a cash drawer is simultaneously the most tedious and stressful part of working in a retail situation. It's stressful because if there is a discrepancy, you did something wrong. Manually counting the money in the till at the beginning and end of your shift is done to prevent theft. People routinely get fired over missing cash. The stakes are high.

#Cupertino Whole Foods deli and bakery remain closed because of 🪳 & 🐀. #SantaClaraCounty health inspectors closed them on March 25th when they found cockroaches and rodent droppings. @Banur @Cat_LeFey Lots of people think that "it's natural, so there are no side effects." They think that conventional medicine has side effects because it only contains the active ingredients. The whole herb has other ingredients that prevent side effects from occurring. Seems about as plausible as the Doctrine of Signatures, but 🤷🏼♀️...
