@edsu My main drawing/handwriting app in IOS has a MacOS stable-mate which means I can also edit using the Mac keyboard and tracjkpad - which is better for some things (like text content). It's a juggling act! Thanks for details of the sexy device. Part of me still is tempted 😞 Good job I can;t afford it.

@bonfire What kind of compatibility is there between Bonfire as it will be initially released, and federated wiki?https://github.com/fedwikiEg will it be easy to run fedwiki on bonfire?Federation is fundamental in both. But would be great if what's under the hood in fedwiki - moving now from node to deno - were intimately interoperable with Bonfire. wiki is an 'awareness engine'.This is way more tech than I can handle - but I really would like to see this explored. It could matter@yala

@yala > document ActvityPub events in a wikiHas work been done on this jon? One of the great elements of the aestrhetic in the wiki community is scraping feeds and re-rendering them, in relation to other feeds or contexts. Aka 'community analytics' or 'mirror analytics' versus the 'extractive analytics' of the Big-data oligarchs. Ward is ace at this.@neil @bonfire

@strypey Eisenstein on Central Bank digital currency and technocratic power> Cash transactions are outside the data set. They are hard to monitor or control. For CBDCs to fit into social engineers’ paradise of total control, they must accompany the elimination of cash.Listen up! Cherish that grubby cash in your pocket. Fight to retain it - just as you fight for freedom to grow 'illegal' seeds. I had a little rant about this here pp3-4:https://cloud.owncube.com/s/Cy3DDNobLjijHFJLenin has a cameo role here too!

@lightweight @dajbelshaw @homegrown As a small coop, meet.coop runs a NextCloud instance. It's essential as a repo for docs, internal and external (and Markdown is very handy, when the NextCloud app is working properly). But imho as a basis for teamwork collaboration (as distinct from doc sharing) I wouldn't say it was wonderful.

@lightweight @dajbelshaw @homegrown But then, I wouldn't say that shared calendars and kanban-ish apps were incredibly wonderful in general, either. The NextCloud toolset works. It's a kludge. Just like the web!The browser UI is pretty stale? Without local editing in a proper editor, the web UI would be a complete pain? The web interface for OpenOffice is awful.

@karrot @penpot @nicksellen Hoping to play w penpot in the next couple of weeks, so maybe some novice-user chat? i’ll explore whether a gui can be created for a collection of text documents, which makes good use of colour coding and icons, and facilitates fluent and transparent navigation of a hypertext network. plus team editing. aka handbook. does anyone have a similar experiment under way?

@adamgreenfield @dredmorbius @strypey The grip that Hardin's pathetic, malicious and utterly predictable misrepresentation of the commons has, on 'popular imagination', serves as a marker and a 'hurry up and get real' call, for those of us who believe that only a radical life and politics of commoning is worth pursuing. We *really* have our work cut out. It's getting late. Hardin-ism has way too many subscribers.

@adamgreenfield @dredmorbius @strypey 'Debating' Hardin is, I agree, and waste of time, and only contributes to further publicity for commitments that are both deeply dangerous and utterly empty-headed - an element of the Right-wing politics of 'let's see how dumb we can get about things' that has established an unprecedently dominant position for itself, this past two or three decades.

@dredmorbius Population and sustainability of human life on earth feel way beyond me as issues to personally hold 'a position' on. Pessimistic on both. For me, what matters is establishing commoning as a a culture and a commitment that can give us forms of social and economic organisation that might even be capable of engaging such issues, and acting wisely. So my only concern with Hardin is undoing the serious harm he's done to 'the commons' @adamgreenfield @strypey

Industrial-scale globalized bot training.. A quote from this article."Everybody needs to make their own privacy decisions." “And I can tell you, overwhelmingly, people make the decision to have the [privacy compromised] features as long as they are delivered at a cost-effective price point.”In consumerism, any moral threshold has 'a price point' where it can be cast aside. And in a complex social world, 'fully informed ' is a nonsensical soundbite.@timnitGebru

Anybody know much about the Earthstar storage protocol? @bhaugen @edsu @strypey @bonfire https://earthstar-project.org/Looks like it's kin to SSB? It's a small and resilient distributed storage protocol designed with a strong focus on simplicity, and the social realities of peer-to-peer computing kept in mind. It's offline-first. Servers are optional. https://earthstar-project.org/docs/what-is-itWho's in the project? https://earthstar-project.org/community/our-backersCreated by Cinnamon

This kind of first-person reflecting writing & sharing genre is so necessary and important . Reminds me of Living thinkwork 🙂 https://owncube.cloud/index.php/s/TFaJJeyFRsQPmR5Hi @nolan , thanks, over there in your trench, from over here in this one. Climbing out of the trench & walking around on the planet is good, lots of beauty out here, despite all the shit. OK, I know you must know that, just encouragement & solidarity & reinforcement 🙏 Here's five 👋🏽@strypey

@strypey Slight flameOn the other hand, deference & awe for certified professional intellectuals is a fault in some cultures - German/French/Italian reverence for ‘Herr Doktor’/les grandes ecoles/professore, for professional philosophers; the US cultural cringe of always putting PhD after your name if you served the time to acquire the certificate. The organic intellectual is somethin’ else? Professional intellectuals are detritus of post-Fordist labour requirements?

@strypey Interview Beer I did - though not about Cybersyn. I wanted to explore Opetational Research. I was (and am) sceptical of his cybernetic scientism and VSM. Fwiw some material here, assembled during the brief exchange between me and Yevgeny Morozovhttps://share.mayfirst.org/s/tsMZGiTGDw98dFRinterview was material for my (klunky) DOhil thesis 'Opetational research & the forces of production - A marxist analysis of science & ideology' https://share.mayfirst.org/s/zGAaCPsTykQtm2X
