@stux Have you considered temporarily firewalling them? It should move the problems down to the network layer, and not risk protocol level weirdness.

@stux "We're still learning what is best for PC players" - are you f'ing kidding me? Only some business weasel would think forcing PSN account linking would be best for anyone.

@stux It was a little hard to wrap my head around initially, but once I got it, it's been great.

@ifixcoinops Not having everything in your house be one big appliance, so that when things fail, you don't lose everything all at once. There's a lot of redundancy in that setup, but remember, if you remove redundancy, you increase the consequences of failure.

@futurebird I saw a short intro video about Mormonism when they were giving tours at the complete-but-not-yet-consecrated temple in Philly - honestly struck me as only a couple ticks away from a horror novel (lots of FOREVERs)

@mhoye I have to say that I hate that every damn thing is turning complete these days. I don't really want my word processing documents to be active, I sure as hell hate that my FONTS are now doing things other than being symbols.

@limebar @mhoye I thought it had already been proven Turing complete?

@foone Module for controlling X10 devices from computer. That means it was probably some kind of low rent home control system.

@mekkaokereke OK, I had a thought earlier today in relation to something else: Something is slowly pushing folks to use cash less and some kind of electronic transaction more (evidence: My son was in London for two weeks in the spring and was UNABLE to spend the cash he took - businesses just don't want to fool with it). Is there some part of CAF that is being used to try to help this along? Doing anything with cash is now twice as dangerous: Criminals might rob you, or the cops might rob you.

@mekkaokereke Or am I just starting to become paranoid, and CAF is just about the theft and the racism?

@foone I have personally done this because the people before me used a normal Linux distro and depended on asking the users to shut the damn thing off nicely instead of pulling the plug out of the wall before wheeling it to the next room. Fsck at boot cut the call volume and the 'fix my device' rate significantly and took very little time to implement and retest.I'd have liked to have fixed it by switching to a read-only root fs, something like yocto for better updates, etc, but time forbade.

@foone 50/50 they buggered up the checks. 25% chance you can't upload any firmware.

@ai6yr OK, I have a question: What's the advantage to Presta valves? I've only ever had Shrader, and was always curious. (obviously not a bike nut here, I just ride occasionally).

@foone Network bringup is total shit on some variants of Linux, so you end up doing dumb shit like this to compensate for no one ever bothering to get it right in all cases.

@futurebird Yea, I think you've got the right of it for this one. The push back will be hard (especially from people like the US DOJ, who take every advantage of the system as it is to stomp on the less-than-wealthy), but it is a fight worth having.

@BrodieOnLinux @viq @lproven @nixCraft Not so much luck, just stupid amounts of engineer time. For as much as I tell my coworkers that RF is black magic, it's really just quite difficult engineering, that you need a lot of very expensive gear to do. And then get through the various approvals. Nothing that big bags of money and years of work won't fix.

@ricci What I always found interesting is that all their 'top' magazines (Vouge, Architectural Digest, Bon Appetite) all are just the same basic fashion mag, with slight differing subject.

@ricci I mean, they never shipped it, but the WinFS thing from Microsoft was one version of making that explicit.
