My partner has convinced me to start saving my favourite memes, and it's actually quite fun to look at some of them again.

@evan @evdelen That's so dangerous given the state of current politics and the persecution of childbearing people. I wouldn't trust ActivityPub with it, especially considering the lack of E2EE.

@evan @evdelen Dangerous territory in 2025/2026. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-61952794Should this data be collected at all, let alone shared? Why do we normalize the sharing of this information? Specifically, PHI.

@futurebird It's been out of circulations since 2012 for Canadians, and my friends still have large penny cans/jars. Unlikely to be valuable for quite some time.

I think the best way to fight RTO is to submit accommodations requests for ergonomics. Tell your doc you have back pain. Get a doctor's note. If you're in a jurisdiction with accommodation legislation, you should be able to get your own desk fitted to you.Now get all your coworkers to do this. No more hot desking, and the costs of an office goes up.#RTO

I don't think there's anything worse than hot desking when you're being forced to go to the office. If you're going to force me to be somewhere I don't want to be, I want my own space to be MINE.

@futurebird Nah, you're actually the embodiment of an entire colony of ants. No individual ant could reflect upon collectivist society as much as you do.

Allowing corporations to bypass Canadian laws seems like a bad idea. Bill C15.https://www.policyalternatives.ca/news-research/bill-c-15-would-allow-corporations-to-be-exempt-from-most-canadian-laws/#cdnpoli

It's a shiny club and you're not in it. The direct and 2nd order shared tenure chart of the World Elite Club in that article is pretty interesting.

@evan @fabio Fabio is right. Expatriate is a term that spun out of white colonizers living in the other parts of the world, where they have no intention of becoming a part of the society, including accepting citizenship.Would most people call Jamaican temporary foreign workers on Canadian farms that are treated as slave labour "expats"? When I went to China to work, was I a Canadian expat? Would I be considered one from the lens of a Chinese national vs a Canadian? The place where I was born is a part of China now. I don't even know what my rights are anymore with regards to my birth place. I'm a Canadian citizen.Expatriate is a term that's drowning in class, racism, and white colonial history. Perhaps you should reconsider its use.

@evan @fabio And further down the thread to:https://cosocial.ca/@evan/115956282132331931"Country of origin" also gets really messy if you have multiple citizenships and grew up in different places. Or if some citizenships no longer exist (like my birth place). A clearer, not-problematic question: "Should people who do not permanently reside in their country of citizenship have the right to vote?"

@evan I'm asking you to reconsider your position on the term "expatriate", and to perhaps refrain from using it in this context in the future.I don't care about the poll itself, since I know that editing is not an option. @fabio

@RuthODay2 For context, the Temporary Foreign Worker program here in Canada is a highly problematic one, where workers are brought in with the right to abode tied to your employer and there's no path to permanent residence. UN Special Rapporteur dubbed it: a "Breeding Ground’ for Contemporary Forms of Slaveryhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/un-report-abuse-temporary-foreign-workers-canada-1.7293495I brought it up because Evan and Fabio are also in Canada.@evan @fabio

@futurebird Fair. It's been a while since I've played. Can't remember most of the characters. But for you, the test does seem accurate! Although none of them care about ants.

@futurebird That's what I keep telling people. Why would anyone read what you couldn't be bothered to write? It's not your voice anymore.
