@skunksarebetter brown mx are also tactile and without the clicky sound. I use themfor years. @patcoll 1. tactile switches are great for typing2. be aware that mechanical keyboards are much louder even with nonclicky switches 3. not everybody likes that really long key travel4. i personally, after 6 years of mechanical keyboard daily use, still type faster (~95-100wpm) on my thinkpads, than on mechanics (~85-90wpm)5. my personal piece of advice: if you don't type a lot, you don't need it

@hund no hard feelings against netflix in particular, but more against media streaming services in general. It teaches people quantity over quality. It promotes, that abundance is better than having only what you really need/like. It won't give you the ownership to what you bought. It won't promise you that you'll have it forever even if you won't stop paying... and my personal problem would also be how much time I would spend on it :)

@hund no streaming/cloud service says that its like rental. they tell you the opposite. For example netflix says: You can watch as much as you want, whenever you want. People are mostly unaware. They are creating their own playlists and libraries on netflix or spotify, without ability to migrate, or any promise they will be allowed to use it in a week or month. Look at Adobe and how they migrated everybody to cloud and then completely blocked venezuela. even with no refund.

@jrballesteros05 @hund saying that is like saying I admire Hitler, cause he didnt have people,he had fans. When he said kill jews, they killed, when he said let 20k starvate to death in Netherlands, they made it so.The fact, that Apple is able to market itself to a point when people are not only willingly buying overpriced, brutaly restrictive, often mediocre stuff, but they are also loud and proud about it is very sad and it is duty of everyone who see that to explain them whats wrong

there are 5 ips subscribed to my blog feed, but I know only of 3 people that subscribed, so maybe two of them use computer and phone with local clients :Dback to the point. 66.6% of my subscribers where asking for full article content in the feed, so I tried hard to please the masses and switched from totally manual web/blog creation to most holistic site generator #makesitepy. I had to change format from old rss to atom and and some other things. let me know if you find any issues @hund ;)

@hund AFAIK the 5X and 6P HW triggered bootloops can be fixed on many devices by disabling 4 big cores and let in run on 4 small ones from the big.little arch. Friend of mine was successfull in reviving his 5X using the bootloader/kernel patch from the xda. more on that topic here:https://www.ifixit.com/News/36821/dark-magic-what-caused-googles-nexus-6p-death-loop-and-how-to-fix-it-with-a-hairdryerif you still have the phone, it's worth a try or two. may the force be with you.

@hund I've checked bunch of docs/stats regarding BeagleV RISC-V CPU performance. It will be on par with the first android devices from around 2008.Cpu has 2 cores running on 1.5GHz with CoreMark=5.1 (https://www.sifive.com/cores/u74-mc). To compare: dual core ARM Cortex-A15 on 1.7GHz has CoreMark=9.3 (https://www.eembc.org/viewer/?benchmark_seq=1480)In perspective: GalaxyS4 from 2013 had big.little 4xA15 (2GHz) + 4xA7 (1.2GHz)So if #Gentoo , then definitely with distcc :D

@tzycce Regular person will never do it. The effort and discomfort is too high. You are targeting people that has some driving force to take the rocky path like:1. People that are strongly privacy oriented2. People that need to manipulate their data often (need complete and raw access)3. Tech savvy people interestested in selfhostingI selfhost for more than decade and I decided last sommer to make a series about it too. 5 episodes are already out:https://mizik.sk/blog/why-setup-your-personal-linux-vps/

@hund @person @lopeztelI have been investing in the past. To precious metals and passive indexes. But I have quit years ago. My reasons were close to what Linus said. Your money on the market may do good as you've said and they may do the opposite too by creating stock market bubbles, by overpricing value of certain companies. Following market corrections causes many people loosing their jobs and money. By ivesting into passive index you let others (the market) decide how your...

@hund @pet84rik it gets difficult only when you try to push it to minimum. But thats also the time when you learn the most about what depends on what or why those things are in the kernel in the first placeI remember funny story from uni. A friend came to my dorm room with study materials on usb dongle. I made a tea for both cause I needed to compile in the usb mass storage support as I wasn't using it on daily basis and I was sporting custom minimal kernel without module support/initrd :D

I have published a brief blog post about self-hosting CalDAV & CardDAV server using #radicale. It is lastest addition to my #selfhosting #selfhosted series. This time shorter and less technical, because there are no hacks, customizations and tricks needed to install this piece of software. Thumbs up to the guys who wrote the official radicale documentation.https://mizik.eu/blog/how-to-setup-your-personal-caldav-carddav-server/index.html

@libreleah #openbsd is my daily driver. I agree with everything, but not with the performance statement. The difference is quite huge. Linux is much faster, unfortunately. #freebsd is a bit better, but still very slow compared to #linuxhttps://www.phoronix.com/review/bsd-linux-eo2021

@drfaustz is #gentoo reliable for low spec machines? yeswill compilation take hours? yes. at least first full world build during the installation process. later, it will depend on how many & how big packages you will have installednowadays, most of the huge packages like browsers or kernel are also available as binary options. but from time to time (e.g. 1x/month), you will need to build new version of gcc, glibc, mesa, or something like that and then it will be hours
