@futurebird Good kids' films/books make the little ones laugh while at the same time giving the adults something to think about. The best ones have a layer for the teens as well.

@futurebird I think people do this because it lets them feel virtuous criticising private jets and whatnot without needing to make any (possibly uncomfortable) changes to their personal habits.Private jets are of course a frivolous waste of resources, but they still contribute only a tiny amount of emissions (all aviation combined is less than 5%) compared to millions of people driving to work every day.

@futurebird Of the things you mention, I struggled a bit with probabilities and statistics when taking the intro course. The way it was presented was just weird (to me, anyway). When applying the concepts in things like signal theory, it started making a lot more sense.

@futurebird @david_chisnall Tangentially, I've encountered people diagnosed with autism or ADHD who let the diagnosis dictate what they can or cannot do without even considering their own actual capabilities.

@futurebird Shopping for something recently, I found a suitable item on Amazon. I then checked the manufacturer's website. They would sell it, but for something like 15% more plus shipping. To top it off, the Amazon item was dispatched from the manufacturer. How does this make sense?
