@thor from what i heard this type of singing is quite common in general among the Northern people of Eurasia, of course experts will spot she specific traits of each community. However, their level of assimilation in Russian culture is very high, basically all these small nations especially in the North are considered culturally endangered.

@thor This movie came out a couple of years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfFY61scM5Q It explores the themes of historical oppression, racism and internalized shame that Samis had to face in Sweden. It is quite good, as it doesn't portray a simplistic black and white story but rather tries to engage with experience of a teenage girl who wants to disconnect from her Sami heritage and 'make it in the big city'. It is based on a family history of the director.

@thor Well, vegans do a lot of health claims (any veganism promoting website could give you a list), but i feel that they have been toned down comparing to lets say 10 years ago. For example, one of the favorite narratives to repeat was that 'red meat causes cancer', or that vegans are at lower risk of cardio-vascular diseases etc. All these claims are based on some limited studies, where multiple other factors are in play, if you look closely. Nutrition is notoriously difficult to research.

@thor I think in the Nordic societies independence and self-sufficiency are valued a lot. People are always afraid of infringing on someone's status as an independent self-sufficient person, which could be perceived as offensive to someone. People are also afraid of making someone feel dependent, and also indebted, or feeling indebted themselves. I think there is very low tolerance to this in the Nordic societies.
