this YouTube video named "!The Connection Between Whites and Asians? Genetics of the Sami, Ainu and Siberian Peoples"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXzqI1r11egi happen to have Sámi heritage. i come from a region of Norway where a lot of people have Sámi heritage.in this video, he claims that you can't tell the Sámi apart from the whites.now, in *some* cases you can't, but look at these photos and tell me they look like Germans or Frenchies. they just don't.something even more basic: the average height up there is way lower than in the more Germanic/Viking areas down south.

i'm convinced the Sámi came from the east. they have facial features that resemble those of Asian people; of Mongols. there is an indigenous people in Russia called the Samoyeds. they have a traditional lifestyle that very much resembles that of the Sámi.

once, in Moscow Airport, i was confused for being Russian. i have facial features that resemble that of Russian people, apparently, which again makes sense, since I have Sámi heritage, and it's very likely that this people came from the East.compare to the southern Norwegians who likely migrated via Germany to Denmark to Sweden and Norway.

@thor It has recently been discovered that the Ainu were the primary stock for Samurai and thus later nobility. Ironic since the mainstream Japanese population considered the unassimilated Ainu lesser thans.

i don't usually strongly identify as Sámi...but i have an affinity toward it.and shortly before my mother died, she gave me something on my keychain (see picture below). i think she wanted to remind me of where i came from. a Sámi shoe.

@KashKustomer i feel the Sámi got it right. they were unconcerned with greed. they're rather unique among indigenous peoples in having no concept of war.during WWII there was this amusing observation: you can't fight an enemy you can't find.the Sámis would disappear into the forests and tundras where no troops could find them. they had no interest in fighting.

@KashKustomer one of my aunts was born in a "gamme", a dwelling built of earth and mud, with one half dedicated to the animals and the other dedicated to he humans. i've seen them on the tundras when my relatives went on snowmobile trips during easter.

@KashKustomer having this kind of past really puts you in connection to what being human is really all about, and it's rather simple. you live, you do not so glamorous things, and then you die, and nature absorbs you. the sky has aurora borealis, the northern lights. the reindeer gives you meat. you go out on a boat to catch fish. you yoik (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joik) to express your emotions. when it gets cold you hug someone, or have sex to stay warm. then you follow the reindeer among their spring/winter migration paths.

@KashKustomer if you want to get the vibe of what it means to be Sámi, watch Veiviseren, the Wayfinder. it was an action movie produced by a Sámi director in the 80s. it's really good. i think you'll understand the plot line even if you don't understand the language:full movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RObEaNoHLA

@KashKustomer not kidding though; it's a really good movie. it gets into the action really early on but also develops sympathy for the main character as it does this. just a legit good action movie. the director is really something out of the usual considering that my region, where this movie is supposed to have taken place, possibly hundreds or thousands of years ago, does not produce a lot of creative output.the main character was, for a long time during the 80s, considered a bit of a teenage idol or heart crush.

@thor from what i heard this type of singing is quite common in general among the Northern people of Eurasia, of course experts will spot she specific traits of each community. However, their level of assimilation in Russian culture is very high, basically all these small nations especially in the North are considered culturally endangered.

@thor This movie came out a couple of years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfFY61scM5Q It explores the themes of historical oppression, racism and internalized shame that Samis had to face in Sweden. It is quite good, as it doesn't portray a simplistic black and white story but rather tries to engage with experience of a teenage girl who wants to disconnect from her Sami heritage and 'make it in the big city'. It is based on a family history of the director.
