@futurebird When I was a kid my family rented a vacation home (technically half of a duplex) that had a carpeted bathroom. And a carpeted kitchen. It had been very throughly decorated in the 1970s and never updated. We stayed there a for week or two several years running, and the low-key ickiness of stepping out of the shower onto electric blue carpet (ultra-short pile, padding underneath) never waned.

@futurebird A movie buddy is appalled that I'm out here watching classics of world cinema on a laptop, but I really don't want a TV. I don't want a screen I can't put away when I'm not using it. Having a large screen in a small apartment feels like...bad feng shui, I guess. It distorts how a person experiences the space.

@futurebird A wine key (waiter's corkscrew). Haven't decided if I'll use the screw part or the part that braces against the lip of the bottle or maybe even the foil cutter. I guess I could change it up depending on the recipient, or the message I want to send about the letter's tone.
