Hey @yogthos Would like to know any thoughts you might have about this piece:https://www.counterpunch.org/2021/08/27/crucial-points-in-the-pandemic-origin-debate/Grabbing my attention a little is,".. possible that there was intentional release. There are a number of possibilities [ ..SNIP.. ] The most obvious is that someone was out to frame the Chinese."and "This is effectively a bioweapons arms race under the guise of protecting the public. Make no mistake: This was sparked and fueled by the US government."

@velartrill I'm stumped by that last bit, honestly. Witchcraft is seen as truly bad now? Or is this some VERY wry humour?

@velartrill Yes, I'm quite aware of the history of persecution of witchcraft or more precisely, witches. My doubt is that what you wrote sounds like you endorse that persecution, but that goes against the sentiment in most of your posts.

@lain It's very simple, Russia "wants to invade Ukraine" because NATO needs an enemy to justify military spending not to mention itself, and because a whole bunch of western politicians badly need a distraction right now from some very serious shit-fuckery that they have been up to recently.

@lain Don't know if you are still pondering this question, but I read this and thought of you. This piece gives some historical context (which I have not "factchecked")America’s Real Adversaries are Its European and Other Allies https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/02/11/americas-real-adversaries-are-its-european-and-other-allies/

Sorry @rysiek I don't think you get to slip "kremlin aggression" in there as it it were a given and then claim questioning of said as off topic. Funny, I had you pegged for a man of better integrity, but it seems there are deep wounds that are far from overcome in ex-USSR, which I do not (obviously) understand fully. It just seems a shame given that the "clear and present" danger does not really seem to be at Kremlin. @tsvety

@kravietz @rysiek @tsvety When in Poland, chatting with rideshare companions and such, I did hear a lot of this sentiment. Were it not for russia, poland would be [ insert great adjective ]... Like in Chile, were it not for spain.. Mexico.. were it not for the US. Ireland, were it not for the British... ok that last one I have a certain bias towards, at the same time I can't argue that the irish are their own worst enemy. [cont..]

@EU_Commission Around here, If you want the details of your proposals to be looked at seriously, probably better to drop this habit of introduction by way of a patronising non-truth.

This is terrific how @EU_Commission demonstrates treating #fediverse as another cog in the propaganda machine that has been "social media". Well done to everyone who replied here and showed that a non bot and troll infested platform will not tolerate being patronised.

@lydiaconwell That is indeed a good point, Lydia and a massive challenge; How can independent journalists do independent journalism, given it hardly pays as it is, and at the same time, run internet infra? I ask with the intention to find solutions, not to challenge you! Maybe @tilvids has ideas too.

@EU_Commission If the EU would act to properly #fuckcars and car culture then a special parking permit would not be needed by those who may have a true need for private transport, because there would ALWAYS be ample space. Not that this should ever take precedence over accessible public transport.

@jeffcliff @jarednaude @covid19 This is actually a really important question for #37c3, even more so maybe for the #38c3, in so much as there are people who stayed away this year soley for the #covid issue. I'm looking forward to the answer! So far, among those I know, the figure is zero.

@yogthos 10 years is OK, it's not so long in the grand scheme of things. Not that after 10 years we'll be in paradise, but that's more or less my gut feeling time frame to have reached the low point. Yes, Europe is very hard to predict. Especially the feeling of the current late teens or those in their early 20s. A political overhaul could trigger good things there surprisingly fast. If they can get rid #vonderleyen asap, that will give hope. I think some scandal might remove her quite soon.

@yogthos I don't really have much concern for the opinions or "views" of people living in unsustainable extractive abusive slave-making societies. What is more important is that the more civilised societies maintain a level head, which I think will probably happen, as they know what they are doing, they have a plan, and last but not least they have the upper hand.

@popolon @yogthos Indeed, the commision is a problem, but IIUC, not untouchable, and yet, for example #diem25 has for some years put forward a reasonable proposal to create a constitution for #EU, by citizens, for citizens. So far it has not gained much traction. While it might be valid to level some criticism at the "leadership", they did do a lot to avoid being centralised. It will take more time to "fix", as the EU citizen is right now, severely #propagandized.

@popolonYes, and now, I am not working for their PR, I'm not even a member! but there was some good stuff going on, and maybe it can be rescued; https://diem25.org/a-propos-de-nous/I would really like to see the good things about cooperation as a continent continue, and I was a bit upset to see all the potential to widen cooperation (russia, asia, latin America) get scuppered in order to be the usa's bitch :blobPikaSad:

@popolon iiuc: well, there is a good example of why one should never just take the first thing the search comes back with. :-) In fact bypassing generic internet "search" might be a good habit going forward, rather than the one stop shop "search" engine. you know.. I'll go direct to the python documentation for er... python questions, or to a dictionary for questions of grammar. In this case, https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=IIUC
