@littlealex Ha! Und für Jahren war Windows eigentlich nur ein ziemlich schlechtes GUI für MS-DOS. Ich kann mich erinnern, dass ich es am Anfang nur testweise eingesetzt habe und für lange Zeit lieber bei Desqview 386 als Task-Switcher/Multitasker geblieben bin, weil es viel stabiler und effizienter war. Ich glaube, erst mit Windows 2000 war es wirklich ein integriertes OS. Auch Windows 98 baute immer noch im Grunde auf MS-DOS auf.

@littlealex Stimmt alles. In dem Moment habe ich nicht mehr an NT gedacht, was ursprünglich eine ganz gute Entwicklung war. Es gibt auch ein tolles Buch über seine Entstehung, dessen Namen mir nicht gerade einfällt. Damals habe ich z.T. auch OS2 verwendet, vorher auch CP/M auf einem Kaypro. Dann Atari ST — Amiga konnte ich mir nicht leisten.

@suricrasia I do so feel you. I kept trying to play games like that but always had three problems:1) This is not making me happy, it’s making me tense. 2) This story is incredibly dumb and dumbly incredible.3) How on earth does anyone who works have time for this?

@trisweb @gerrymcgovern There were calls to integrate an AI chat bot as an interface to our documentation system. So we tried it out, extensively, with several of the current leading systems. Even when they were pointed exclusively at the documentation the results were simply embarrassing. Half the responses were plausible sounding complete fabrications and only someone who already knew the answer could have identified what was correct. Which rather makes the whole operation pretty useless.

Dark patterns on #Netflix: If you have an old Netflix account, for example for two screens, unlimited, UHD and no ads for around €12.99 a month, you will have received an email in December informing you of a very moderate price hike, from €12.99 to €13.99. If you’re like me, you will have assumed that the email was just information, as it was in the past, and if your were OK with the new price, you just shrugged and went on about your day. Big mistake.Hidden way way down in this particular email was a link that you had to click to confirm you accepted the new price. If you missed that, your account will have been cancelled on January 4th of this year. And it will have been cancelled in a way that makes it looks like YOU cancelled it, not Netflix. Because YOU didn’t click on the link, YOU cancelled it. Get it?If you then try to reinstate your account you will discover that the offer you could have clicked into in the tricky email is no longer available. All you can get now for the €13.99 is 2 screens with old HD format. If you want UHD you must now pay €19.99, with 4 screens, which most people don’t need.Why can they do it like this? Because YOU cancelled your account. That’s the trick. By doing it this way Netflix gets to get rid of their old low-price subscribers without saying THEY kicked them out, confident in the knowledge that most of them will curse a couple of times and then resubscribe at the new price, which is a massive 54% price increase. As for me, I’m done with them. I can afford the new price and probably would have stayed if they had just said up front that was what it was going to be. But not like this. As far as I’m concerned, Netflix can go pound sand.
