@desantis @th I guess the cool kids are saying "use pgrep" but I've never gotten around to trying to get in that habit.

What if the Torment Nexus was fundamental to WordPress?WordPress corporate tools out here salivating over the prospect of a Spicy Autocomplete Slop Firehose being so tightly coupled to WordPress core that there's no hope in hell of getting rid of it:...https://jwz.org/b/yk0X

This just in, I have been informed that my stance of, "no, I am not interested in hearing your anecdote about how the Plagiarism Machine saved you some time once" means that I "live in a bubble".

@vkc Just go back to the Shepard Fairey dinosaur logo and you don't have to pay them anything. We bought that art outright and open sourced it.

@th @vkc I am 99% certain this happened in 1998 or 1999, but I am no longer the keeper of Mozilla.org's intellectual property. However, it's dangerous to go alone, take this: https://web.archive.org/web/20000822020849/https://www.mozilla.org/banners/

It has come to my attention that the artwork for the original mozilla.org "dinosaur" logo is not widely available online. So, here it is.As I explained in some detail in my 2016 article "They Live and the secret history of the Mozilla logo", I commissioned this artwork from Shepard Fairey to use as the branding of the newly-founded mozilla.org and our open source release of the Netscape source code, which eventually became Firefox. This happened in March 1998...https://jwz.org/b/yk0j

And I definitely need to be 5 pages deep before you show me the "shipping is the same as billing" checkbox. Everybody knows that more clicks means more retention, right?

Car Brain. There's a lot of stupid in the world, but here's some more. For those of you not in San Francisco: we have an old freeway running right past the ocean. It is falling into the ocean, and for decades had been closed like 20% of the time as...https://jwz.org/b/yk1T

@clark I am convinced that every merchant who complains about parking spaces is actually complaining about *exactly one* parking space, the one in front of their business where they park their personal car all day starting at 6am. Car Brain makes everyone act against their own interests. Cars are the Cordyceps of Cities.

My long payphone nightmare has reached a middle. It is alive. I did not, in fact, chuck it into the bay, though it was a close thing. I hope that I do not have to struggle with my Bell System T Tool again for another four to eight years. If you don't know what I'm talking about I have so many Previouslies for you. RE: https://social.vmbrasseur.com/@vmbrasseur/115922995190919975Mozilla wants your input. Here's mine:Mozilla should be doing two things and two things only:1: Building THE reference implementation web browser, and2: Being a jugular-snapping attack dog on standards committees.3: There is no 3.Mozilla should have NOTHING to do with AI. Nobody wants it. Stop forcing AI into every corner of every project because your VC-brained management have completely lost the plot.https://mozillafoundation.tfaforms.net/201

@gknauss @Migueldeicaza I have a better solution to the problem of reading Twitter threads and it it this:Utterly disregarding the thoughts of anyone who is still choosing to use Twitter in this, The Year of our Dystopia Two Thousand Twenty Six.Anyone who is still making that decision is not worthy of my attention. I do not care what they have to say. They have disqualified themselves utterly.
