@web3isgreat I can just imagine the design meeting:"What people really want to be in the metaverse are fetish mannequins. Now go tell the art department to stop crying and get to work."

@thomasfuchs What I find hilarious is that for a tech built of the concept of Trust No-One, all of these scams come about because someone trusted someone else.

@vanderwal @msh @thomasfuchs I've not really seen anything about web3 that thought in any scale, other than "How can I profit off of this?"Trust is a thing, and it's needed. This is true for tech, for economies, & for society. You should be able to verify, but you're limited by lots of things, many non technical, and ends at the point of trust. Trust free systems are near impossible and quickly degrade with population. Not considering that in design is fatal to the system.

@thomasfuchs What the hell are people driving? My cars get 330 and 530 miles out of a 13 and 11 gallon tank.

@thomasfuchs @brion I guess I'm old.The gas shortage in the 70's left a mark. (even though I was far from able to drive.) I've always picked vehicles with the highest MPG when I can.Shortages, embargoes and wars are always things. I'm just amazed when I see folk drive around in 10 MPG vehicles. Hell, why aren't there tons of cheap hybrid pickups? Not like they don't have battery space available.bleh, yeah, I know the reasons.

I asked Dall*E to come up with a mascot for our back end engineering page. I started wondering why so many of them were sad or angry, and then I remembered that this was for back end engineers, and it just sorta fit.

I need to keep reminding myself that the hardest thing in tech is getting someone else to give a shit.

@bananarama Yeah, likewise, not every problem requires a technical solution. In my case, trying to get folks to understand the value of good mentoring, why it's horribly broken in tech, and trying to figure out how to fix it is surprisingly difficult. Which I suppose is ironic. Because you'd figure for how shit mentoring is, folks would be happy to give some of it.(Narrator: They don't.)

Every company review cycle I am constantly reminded of the fact that no one in any HR department has ever dealt with an introvert."Please list 3 peers who will judge you.""Please list all your accomplishments over the past period so we know your value."Please excuse me while I deal with amplified imposter syndrome and near crippling social anxiety.

@introvertgay One thing I've kinda succeeded at is convincing junior folk to keep a weekly log of things they've done (both positive and negative). I also offer to help folk write their own reviews, because it's easier to sing the praises of others. It at least handles the "accomplishments" part. I have no idea how to deal with the "peer" part.

@skepteis Oh, cool! How did you compensate for the differences in exposures? There's quite a gap between magnitudes -12.74 and 3.1. I'm guessing this is a composite, but did you shoot at different times to avoid getting blur from the moon?

@skepteis Heh, the moon moves fast in the scope, slow when you're trying to get the shot. Totally understand.Hope I can get a shot like this one day.
