       @jrconlin @thomasfuchs 500 miles / 21 workdays / 2 way commute = 12 miles each way. sounds like a fairly short suburban commute

       @brion @jrconlin that commute, at 25mpg, uses 20 gallons of fuel per month. Even if you count two working people per household (there aren't) it's less than half of the 90 gallons statistic.

       @thomasfuchs @jrconlin ah I got my math wrong, was using per-tank value, not per-month value *oops*

       @thomasfuchs @brion I guess I'm old.The gas shortage in the 70's left a mark. (even though I was far from able to drive.) I've always picked vehicles with the highest MPG when I can.Shortages, embargoes and wars are always things. I'm just amazed when I see folk drive around in 10 MPG vehicles. Hell, why aren't there tons of cheap hybrid pickups? Not like they don't have battery space available.bleh, yeah, I know the reasons.

       @msh @thomasfuchs @brion Here’s hoping for brisk fleet sales. ( for fuel costs alone)
