@TheGibson I am sure it will be fine. Being able to literally control someone using a brain implant made by one of the biggest ad sellers will definitely not end poorly for anyone dumb enough to use this thing when it starts human trials.

What is everyone's opinion on phishing campaigns within organizations? Do they produce results? Are users less likely to click on things over time when consonantly exposed to the campaigns?I personally feel that it is a rather useless metric and that money should be spent elsewhere for network defense, just wondering what everyone else thought on the subject.

@jerry If a company puts that much stake in phishing simulations then there are other technologies that protect users from malicious emails.

@sophia I work in information security and the disconnect my coworkers have between digital security and data privacy is truly mind boggling.

@TheGibson What are you going to use Mycroft for? I assume we are talking about the open source AI technology correct?

@TheGibson I had looked into it because I really want home automation, but will not put a corporate listening device in my house. The thing that turned me off was that it appeared to need a cloud based account to sync everything.https://mycroft.ai/documentation/home-mycroft-ai-pairing/I was looking at OpenHAB instead but didn't get really far into my research. https://www.openhab.org/From what I can tell it can be run locally without internet to automate all the things.

@kelbot @TheGibson I have an AIY kit I have never set up. Might be something to do with the kids at some point in the future if mycroft supports it instead of Google.

@jerry I complain all the time about not being able to get a tv without smart features anymore. Give me 2x the hdmi ports and powered USB and I’ll be super happy. You can keep your half-assed attempts at a multimedia experience and the ad revenue you get from plastering ads on my home screen thank you very much.

@pixelfedBut if you did we could just export our data and import to another instance or run our own. Federated social media is a thing of beauty!

Interesting take on cloud computing and cost versus benefit. https://world.hey.com/dhh/why-we-re-leaving-the-cloud-654b47e0

@dave An academic waxing poetic about how hopeful they are that these will overcome massive shortcomings to not be terrible for humanity is not very comforting.

If you are still on Twitter, why?I am sure there are good reasons, but do any of those reasons make sense when compared with the abject harm this platform is causing? It was never great, but there is almost no chance it gets better from here on out.https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/20/antisemitic-tweets-soared-twitter-after-musk-took-over-study-finds/

And for any companies still spedning ad dollars on that platform, what is the upside? Advertising on social media has always had mixed results for established brands. What benefit are companies seeing that makes them stay and risk having their brand tarnished as Twitter gets worse and worse?

I wonder how much better we could have made public transportation if we had taken all of the VC money that was dumped into "driverless" cars and just built more train infrastructure.

@mekkaokereke White people are always looking for black people to do/say something they can construe as racist/anti-sematic/bigoted/etc. as a way to justify their internal issues they don't want to deal with.It is the same with white people wanting to use the N word. Their justification is that Black people use it, so they should be able to, or to have a false sense of self-righteousness because THEY don't use THAT word. The one thing white people don't want to do is focus on themselves, and face the centuries of harm they have perpetrated on Black and other indigenous people.
