@TheGibson What are you going to use Mycroft for? I assume we are talking about the open source AI technology correct?

@TheGibson I had looked into it because I really want home automation, but will not put a corporate listening device in my house. The thing that turned me off was that it appeared to need a cloud based account to sync everything.https://mycroft.ai/documentation/home-mycroft-ai-pairing/I was looking at OpenHAB instead but didn't get really far into my research. https://www.openhab.org/From what I can tell it can be run locally without internet to automate all the things.

@jeff @thegibson If there is any voice assistant you can not worry too much about it is Mycroft. Is it always listening? Sort of since it needs to be able to hear when you say the wake word, but a key difference between it and the others is you can look at it's code and exactly what it's doing. They are working on a personal server component to let you avoid having to send anything over the internet at all if you don't want to. https://mycroft.ai/blog/mycroft-personal-server-conversation/

@kelbot @jeff exactly what I liked about the AIY project, that, and the button to trigger listening. :)

@thegibson @jeff Yeah, I grabbed 2 of the aiy kits for $4.99 😃 and you can now run mycroft on it instead of Google's assistant.

@kelbot @TheGibson I have an AIY kit I have never set up. Might be something to do with the kids at some point in the future if mycroft supports it instead of Google.

@jeff @thegibson That would be perfect. I'm planning on getting one of these nicer enclosures for mine too.
