@Ricardus i agree, deleting for general users is a bad idea.i think the good use case is for bots that post periodic data. Something that post every important play of a sporting match, one that posts hourly weather reports. There is a bot that posts satellite communication reports, good to look at in the moment but absolutely no need to keep more than a week.

@Ricardus i think people are overestimating the issue here. unless people are posting a ton of images, which may be an actual issue, the vast majority of our posts are 500 bytes plus meta data. being federated *should mean* that the weight of archival is shared. the cache cleaning process should be server side, and should maintain a history, if done right.

@art I've noticed the last bastion of free knowledge that goes in conservative areas tends to be the library. not because of anything special, mostly because they fly under the radar and spend less than schools. Once the library is gone, however, that's when you should worry.

@Ricardus a decade ago i was working a job site out in Colorado. Noise on a communication line and needed to add some pull down resistors to clean things up. RadioShack, battey powered soldering iron and a desolder gun.Tiny airport in Grand Junction, security stopped me as X-ray showed an aluminum tube, big spring, something pointy... totally must be a gun that uses no combustion. The only security guard there had to stop the other 3 people on that flight to talk to me in a separate room.
