@james @getajobmike I don't love that. The decentralized network isn't Mastodon alone. 😕 If you take that logic further, all ActivityPub servers should have the same favicon.I get that federation muddies the waters here, but the software is the least important thing here imo.

@james @getajobmike @mastohost Yeah, once I saw it was hardcoded, I figured since I host my own I'll probably intercept favicon requests and point them at my own files before the requests even get to Mastodon.

Dear #ActivityPub experts: if a video platform federates with ActivityPub, should its `Create` activities have with `Video` objects or `Note` objects with Videos as attachments the way posting a video on Mastodon does?Would Mastodon know what to do if it received a `Create`->`Video` activity? Should the sending server adapt what it sends to the known capabilities of the receiving server?

Confirming that Mastodon does not know what to do with a Video as a top-level entity over the wire. You have to send a Video packaged as an attachment of a Note for Mastodon to be able to render it. In the screenshots, my Mastodon server accepted the first but discarded the second.I'm just thinking about how neat it would be to have a TikTok-like server where people could interact with your videos from their favorite fediverse app.#ActivityPub

@robacarp @liaizon I assumed they didn't mean Mastodon specifically but instead AP in general

@smallcircles @robacarp @liaizon Indeed, any time interoperability is a goal, tradeoffs may need to be made. And since a lot of folks don't want to have a bunch of different accounts for different platforms (many want to consume everything in their Mastodon feed), interoperability is a great goal to have. I don't know if it's feasible yet, but it was the driving force behind my question.

Sometimes I think about how an old friend of mine once, after playing a note on his guitar and bending the string, looked at me and said "I just played an infinite number of notes".

How do I raise the file-upload size limit in my Mastodon instance? Seems like every time I upload a screenshot I have to manually resize it several times to get it down below whatever limit it uses — seems like 1MB?I want to be able to upload the image no matter how big it is. The server can deal with it.#MastoAdmin

It's also irritating that it doesn't even tell me what size it needs to be and I've had to dial in the upload size manually. The only feedback is the text "413" popping into the lower lefthand corner of the window.I happen to know that HTTP 413 means Request Entity Too Large so I know I've gone over the size limit, but that's very niche knowledge. That error message contains no useful feedback for most people.

@jaleshunas The fact that all of these combinations appear to have nonzero usage is surprising to me.

@minimalparts I'm thoroughly interested in this. Have any of these presentations been recorded in a place we can watch online? Happy to pay to access it if needed. My interest comes from also often having to respond to overenthusiastic people who don't understand the tech, both at work and outside of it. I'm often unsuccessful in convincing folks it's not the panacea they desperately want it to be, so I would love to see and hear how you present it.

> We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, we loot> Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!> Over the river and through the woods> To Grandmother's house we goI just realized "To Grandmother's House We Go" and the Pirates of the Caribbean song (from the original Disney World ride, not the movies) have the same vocal cadence and melody

We have a flash flood warning and an extreme heat warning at the same time. Both are rated "Severe: Significant risk to life or property".You'd think that wouldn't be possible.

If you use AI-generated code, you currently cannot claim copyright on it in the US. If you fail to disclose/disclaim exactly which parts were not written by a human, you forfeit your copyright claim on *the entire codebase*.This means copyright notices and even licenses folks are putting on their vibe-coded GitHub repos are unenforceable. The AI-generated code, and possibly the whole project, becomes public domain.Source: https://www.congress.gov/crs_external_products/LSB/PDF/LSB10922/LSB10922.8.pdf

It'll be interesting to see what happens when a company pisses off an employee to the point where that person creates a public repo containing all the company's AI-generated code. I guarantee what's AI-generated and what's human-written isn't called out anywhere in the code, meaning the entire codebase becomes public domain. While the company may have recourse based on the employment agreement (which varies in enforceability by state), I doubt there'd be any on the basis of copyright.

FWIW I'm not a lawyer and I'm not recommending that you do this. 😄 Even if companies have no legal standing on copyright, their legal team will try it. It *will* cost you money. But man, oh man, I'm gonna have popcorn ready for when someone inevitably pulls this move.
