Hey @gabriel the Thoughts section has been removed from gabe.rocks. All the technology posts are still there, but your other articles seem to be inaccessible. Why'd you remove it?

@gabriel I’m thinking about hosting Misskey. One feature I’m concerned about is the drive. I know that Misskey allows you to change the upload limit for each file, which by default is 250 MiB. But the drive itself has a limit of 2 GB, and since you run a Misskey instance, is the drive limit changeable? Also, I know you might not trust Calckey, but what do you think of FoundKey?

@gabriel That’s great! I will probably use Misskey to upload big files. Now that I know I can increase the limit I may upload files more often. And since deleting a file also deletes posts associated with them, I’ve got a few plans...

@gabriel Also, another question. How are instances moderated on Misskey? I know that Pleroma has MRF, which allows for highly-customizable moderation of instances. With Misskey, all I could see was that you could block or suspend an instance. Also I could see unlisted posts in hashtags last I remember, so it looks like I might not be removing instances from the federated timeline.

@m0xEE @atyh There's also gmni by Drew DeVault, which also comes with a browser, gmnlm. Too bad maintenance stopped just 4 months ago, since he seems to be no longer interested in Gemini.https://sr.ht/~sircmpwn/gmni/

What's happened to my ThinkPad's red pointer knub device? Only the trackpad works now.

@gabriel They no longer need to just make catchy ads or stress you out. They can literally disrupt your sleep on the root level and control you. That’s right, the chips have root access! But that’s only because the chips are proprietary. If they were free hardware running free firmware and software, you wouldn’t get ads!

@gabe Honestly I’m curious how they actually implement that type of currency when digital dollars already exist (maybe I’m not familiar enough with the CBDC to know exactly how it works, but I’m getting a hint it’s not exactly like a credit card). Glad that citizens are allowed to leave feedback. @gabriel

@wjmaggos We already hit YouTube as the “near future” many years ago, sometime in the mid-to-late 2010s. But of course the future will be @peertube!

@Haijo7 Why? Because it doesn’t have all the features you want but you can code C just fine?Honestly I’m glad it supports the Mastodon API because I wonder how well certain web frontends would work with it...

@matthew @thelinuxcast Maybe it could be an effect of inflation, while the technology also gets more advanced at the same time. But then they’re robbing more money from us along the way...

@thelinuxcast It was shocking when I first saw the iPhone X when it cost $1000, and yet people bought it anyway! So much for trying having a screen fill as much of the front as possible and removing the home button, in exchange for a notch and facial recognition. I remember when the iPhone 7 removed the headphone jack and people bought it anyway. I am using my iPhone X to write this post, and I haven’t bothered to upgrade it since iOS 13.4.1.

@LinuxGamer I believe not, I’ve only seen it on glitch-soc, not Vanilla Mastodon.

@LinuxGamer Keep in mind that Mastodon uses a lot of resources, so you probably won't be able to run it on a VPS. Starnix does use glitch-soc, so you should be able to use it just fine as your alt.
