       @TechConnectify AIUI existing and new Skoda Enyaq - which likely then means all VW group MEB platform vehicles - should be able to do V2L once CARIAD get around to writing/releasing the software… I’m not holding my breath on that one.

       @arstechnica @hacks4pancakes sure seems insane that things like this are apparently optional in the US market. Factory fitted immobilisers were required by EU law passed in 1997 (effective in late ‘98 in the UK).The 8y gap between the EU and US markets making ABS/ESP mandatory was a fun surprise I first discovered when traffic on the freeway came to a sudden stop in bad weather during a US visit circa 2010. I had left myself enough space to react but.. I sure left a lot more after that.

       @neil I suppose that’s the reality of the FTTP rollout nearing completion by that date. At least they’re *planning* for it, which is more than can be said for a lot of the huge layoffs we’ve seen.

       @neil what I don’t understand is why they apparently aren’t framing these announced plans as such. They simply won’t need as many people once the network is built. That is a much better basis than “our stock didn’t perform as well as we hoped this quarter and we just realised we anti-competitively overhired a bunch of developers we don’t have work for, so we’re doing this to make the stock market happy”

       @ncweaver @simon @briankrebs does it though? The largest danger in LLMs isn’t really the stuff that’s hilariously, obviously wrong. A coding copilot failing to produce code that compiles ~= the melting point of eggs.There is plenty of code that will compile and look plausible but will not actually work correctly. For evidence of this, see every bug introduced into software by a human developer who thought they were writing the right thing.
