@nulleric Christ on a cracker the macgui post is fucking sad. The problem I have with so much of the Vintage scene is that there's a divide between people who save and collect openly and those that place it behind a wall.yes, vintage stuff is commofified now. That's the effect of widespread cheap data storage. Dude really should have gone and put the whole index up on archive.org and/or mac garden.

@dalias @enron that monoculture is the result of Mozilla, Apple, and Microsoft infighting while at the table of the w3c. When none of them could agree on common things, Google ramrodded many of their ideas through. Many of the APIs that we criticize Google for were proposed by Mozilla for Firefox OS, then taken up by Google, who went and implemented them such that Chromium’s process model was the only valid way to implement it. You now cannot be standards compliant without being Chromium.

@oblomov @ariadne Nope, it's not just Pawoo. They actually implemented the backend for the PhotoDNA API, since there's a *fairly* large company behind them.The issue is that PhotoDNA, while free to "qualified developers" isn't an open API and is run by The Evil Company That FOSS Hates, Microsoft. This means it'll never get widespread adoption.

@izaya This beats my father's solution.Since he refuses to learn how extensions like TabMixPlus work, he just nukes the process from orbit from [task manager, etc.] and restarts it, or waits for his machine to reboot and then restarts it. Nine times out of ten, this works. The other 10% is a game of "whose profile is it anyway" since there's now at least 30 Firefox profiles all named "new profile"
