       @adamasnemesis Strategic national interests and/or profit. Historically, colonies were usually only started for one or both of those reasons—and the sheer technical and financial barriers to entry for manned space flight preclude any outliers (e.g., fleeing for religious or personal reasons) from occurring.

       @Jdreben It takes a warrant (in the US and other countries with some personal rights), but yeah. (Except for maybe extremely urgent exigent circumstances.) I worked in law enforcement for 15 years, and I’d only install cameras with locally stored footage, maybe with an encrypted backup in the cloud in case of a fire. Though my fear is far more advanced persistent threats, or simply bored Ring employees, targeting major brands like Ring than fear of police (and Ring) going rogue.
