I have always been suspicious of #Ring. Would never have one in my house. Also #Alexa I am suspicious of... But I do use a Google home speaker š¬ Should I ditch my Google home?"There's no way I'd put a cloud connected camera in my house"

@julia I get it. It's not like I'm commiting crimes in my house. I just feel like it's an invasion of my privacy that the gov *could* access it.I'd use a #FOSS and self hosted option if I were into cloud home security.

@Jdreben It takes a warrant (in the US and other countries with some personal rights), but yeah. (Except for maybe extremely urgent exigent circumstances.) I worked in law enforcement for 15 years, and Iād only install cameras with locally stored footage, maybe with an encrypted backup in the cloud in case of a fire. Though my fear is far more advanced persistent threats, or simply bored Ring employees, targeting major brands like Ring than fear of police (and Ring) going rogue.
