@KitlerIs6 @bot Cool go argue with a doctor. If you’re ok letting politicians decide what recognized medicines can and can’t be used, you’re already in a losing argument.

@KitlerIs6 @bot Then you’re also against this. It prohibits gender affirming care being given to adults. Unless you’re arguing in favor of it for a different reason…

@Hoss @bot This is about adults. And parents and doctors who are willing to help their children. Is this post going around the nazi Fediverse or something?

@bot@seal.cafe Why are you asking me. Look in a medical journal. Ask a doctor. Just Google it.https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-the-science-on-gender-affirming-care-for-transgender-kids-really-shows/

@killyourfm @thunderbird Hey Jason, would you mind if I asked you to try out my email service when it's available later this month? It would be awesome to have such a knowledgeable perspective on it. You can read about it here: https://port87.com/It's not completely open source, but it's built with the two open source projects I maintain, Svelte Material UI and Nymph.js. It's also built with SvelteKit, so I'd be interested in what you think of it compared to desktop apps.

@Lyude We solved this problem in 1981 with SMTP. The problem is that the UIs are all designed after writing a letter instead of having a conversation. I want to create a new SMTP header called “Display-As: chat” that tells an email client to show a message in a conversation view. No subject, no CC or BCC, no formatting, no quoted replies, no cruft.

@Lyude I also want to create a mobile app that uses IMAP and SMTP to give you a messenger like UI for whatever email provider you use. Does that sound like something you’d use?

@talon @Lyude Yes. Someone else just told me about this. I’d still like to create my own (because it seems fun), but it would basically be the same thing.

@talon @Lyude And what’s awesome about Delta Chat and what the engineers there have done is that any messenger I make that follows their protocol would be not only completely compatible with their messenger app, but also backwards compatible with all the plain old email apps like Gmail.

@fsf It's true. My email service is built on Linux, Node.js, and SvelteKit, just to name a few. I strive to give back to the community that's given me so much! More than half of what I've written for my service is free and open source. :)

Fun fact: if you want to develop #FreeSoftware for #macOS, #Apple has made it so difficult for your users to run it (they have to intentionally bypass several "security" systems) that you are basically forced to pay them $99 a year to "notarize" your code if you want your users to have a good experience and trust your app.Does this actually improve the security of macOS? No.Does it make Apple absolute mountains of cash? Yes.

The whole idea behind "notarizing" your code is that Apple checks it for malicious code. In the past, before everything became shitty, this was done on your computer by your antivirus software. In addition to being free, doing it locally has the added benefit of having the most up to date virus database at the point of scan.So Apple has decided to make a worse experience for everyone, charge for it, and tout it as making their operating system more secure.

I have now paid Apple $200 over the past two years to have the privilege of giving away free software for their platform. Fuck you, Apple.

I don’t think #Framework understands that they _are_ a political brand. They don’t have the best products, and they don’t have the cheapest products. They have products that appeal to _political positions_. By trying to keep “politics” out of their decisions, what they’re saying is that the **literal only selling point** of their machines is no longer valid. It’s incredibly sad to see, because I was a fan of Framework until I saw this atrocious response.https://community.frame.work/t/framework-supporting-far-right-racists/75986/2

@shironeko Yeah, that’s the problem. I don’t only care about e-waste, and I’d rather buy a better laptop if I have to buy from a company that supports fascists.

@shironeko They appealed to two positions for me, environmentalism and right-to-repair. I think taking care of the environment is important, and I think repairable products are important. But way more than either of those two, I think denouncing fascism is important. That is the _most_ important issue to me. If Framework can’t do that when asked, then I can’t support them.

@shironeko I don’t understand. They never said they explicitly supported fascists before this. I would assume that any reasonable person would be horrified if someone pointed out that they were accidentally supporting a fascist. Their response is not one of horror, but one of apathy. They don’t care who they support as long as they’re an open source developer. Well, I care. If their big tent welcomes fascists, then it doesn’t welcome me.
