BJP has a lot to benefit from this dumpster fire that they've stoked in Assam. They've even based the dumpster fire on long existing sentiments. When things do go wrong, BJP will blame the Assamese and allude the problem entirely to them being xenophobic, then call in the army for the long haul. Kashmir will happen again.

You can't choose your calling. The calling chooses you. It's up to you only to accept or reject the call.

Crucial difference between the North East and mainland India protesting #CABBill:NE protestors: Hindu, Muslim, whatever religion we don't care. We don't want any migrants of any kind in our territory! You all have colonized us enough.Mainland protestors: You can't have a special bill giving priority to specific religious identities. This is anti-Muslim!

The communities that came into the NE with the British Raj in the late 19th century (Bengalis, Biharis, Marwadis, etc.) were seen as colonizers by the local population. In a way, they were colonizers, just second in the hierarchy of power. The trauma from this power dynamic has remained - and resulted in a strong desire to push out the "non indigenous". Thus the NRC was welcomed by some in the region (shut out the non indigenous), and the CAB is a thorn in the side (can't let them in).

Assamese, Bengali, Tribal, Hindu, Muslim - doesn't matter. The #CABBill is reminding all of Assam about the 80s and 90s. Everyone who lived through those times in Assam suffers from a collective PTSD, which has reared its head once again after 20 years.

The State versus Center tugs of war have suddenly flared up from all the dumpster fires lit by the present Govt. I'm wondering, who really is the tukde-tukde gang now?

@Samyukth It purely depends on whether the average Indian has been able to form enough human connections across linguistic, caste and religious lines, so that harm done to another spurs empathy and pain. The light only lies there in the face of highly divisive politics.

@Vishsai They are also well placed because small communities with strong identities make for tremendously loyal political bases. It's easier to exploit their insecurities for personal gain. @Samyukth

@Vishsai Narratives only work if they bring up existing emotions. You cannot build a common enemy without a common story and shared pain. For that, there needs to be a sense of shared identity. The question remains, is the Indian identity inclusive enough, or has it already been re-shaped beyond repair? @Samyukth

The fate of our nation depends on whether the average Indian has formed enough emotional connections across linguistic, caste and religious lines, such that harm done to another spurs empathy and pain. In the face of highly divisive and dark politics, the light only lies in Empathy.

The #assam protestors would fail India terribly if they ask for exemption from the #CAA only for the NE region. The Modi govt. might take them up on that offer. But realize this: there is a very strong "you don't care about us, so why should we care about you" sentiment brewing because many mainland liberals have loudly declared that these protests do not toe the line on their ideology.Divided we fall, as usual.

The #caa will intensify and justify demands for inner line permit status for more states and areas in the NE.If granted, say bye bye to integration with mainland India.Oh and Modi ji, also bid bye bye to free and easy access to the natural resources and economic potential of the NE. I think your industrial complex backers will not be pleased.

BJP, RSS and AVBP, junk "Acche din" and all. Here's your real slogan:"If you don't toe our line, If you don't pretend it's fineIf you don't agree with usIf you try to make a fussIf you speak out your mindWe'll come running behindTo seperate the evens and oddsThrough the sharp end of our rods."

Those having trouble with the "Free Kashmir" poster, please acknowledge that Kashmir is not free today and you'd rather hide from that truth. You are scared of extending the freedom that you enjoy daily to that state because you can't deal with the screams of pain that will come out when those voices are no longer muted.

Religion is just a coping mechanism to deal with the uncertainty and discomfort of existence itself.

@wbtd @musafir @sanjayuvacha @gautamghosh will check it out. Generally though, low dependence on social norms (organized religion being one of many sources of social norms) is not possible for groups. Larger groups especially depend on social norms to function. It's only individuals who can have relatively lower dependence on social norms to function.

I think all of these airlines have taken an important safety measure by banning Kunal Kamra from flights. He will destroy the right wing.
