The State versus Center tugs of war have suddenly flared up from all the dumpster fires lit by the present Govt. I'm wondering, who really is the tukde-tukde gang now?

@hackiechan As if there was any doubts about that earlier. The methodology has just moved along from being subtle to in-your-face. Is there a light at the end of this tunnel, I wonder?

@Samyukth It purely depends on whether the average Indian has been able to form enough human connections across linguistic, caste and religious lines, so that harm done to another spurs empathy and pain. The light only lies there in the face of highly divisive politics.

@hackiechan True. It is going to be a campaign against hate across fault line and live mines. There is a lot anger being generated and instead of targeting each other and digging more fault lines we should give the public one common enemy The BJPwho is the source for all this. @Samyukth

@hackiechanWe are going to see a lot more smaller actors who for their greed will push a more divisive agenda. @Samyukth

@Vishsai They are also well placed because small communities with strong identities make for tremendously loyal political bases. It's easier to exploit their insecurities for personal gain. @Samyukth

@hackiechanThat's why building a common enemy narrative becomes important. It will force even those people to take part in it to make their voices heard. It can also drown out the other divisive voices. The people who can show empathy to everyone are very less but they will play a crucial role to temporarily maintain balance with different fault lines till the common enemy gets defeated. @Samyukth

@Vishsai Narratives only work if they bring up existing emotions. You cannot build a common enemy without a common story and shared pain. For that, there needs to be a sense of shared identity. The question remains, is the Indian identity inclusive enough, or has it already been re-shaped beyond repair? @Samyukth

@hackiechan Narrative work if they bring up existing emotions. The advantage that I have seen with hate is that you give it a common enemy then people will keep their fault lines aside and cooperate. Actually that process helps in the inclusiveness. .@Samyukth

@hackiechan Have seen live demonstration. In my college was divided into north and southern states like Andhra Tamil and Kerala. Since I spoke 3 languages got involved with a few fights happening. These people literally hated each other. Plus had north Indian guy in love with a Tamil girl. Had a strict management which most hated except a few from Tamil nadu as the college was situated there. And speaking Tamil means you get out of trouble. @Samyukth

@hackiechanThen there was an issue with the college registration. And administration was very arrogant. They refused to answer any questions and made us go to classes. This forced people to gather. Keralites who are expert in striking started one and then everyone joined in. It got the whole college together. Regardless of fault lines, there was violence and putting things on fire but after the issue got resolved the fault lines subsided. The couple affair went on for another 3yrs @Samyukth
