@stux As someone living in the US, my wife and I constantly talk about where the line is that would cause us to find a new nation to call home. With each passing week we seem to talk about it more and more. It would be very involved to uproot our, and our children’s lives, but there is a line, if crossed, that we’d just not longer feel comfortable (for lack of a better word) with.

@stux @rbreich My town is at the center of a lot of this after closing all the stores after they unionized. While for me I haven’t gotten coffee from them in years (we have several wonderful local roasters), I feel terrible for the employees impacted by simple corporate greed, and desire to exert complete control over their employees.

@stux I’m just worried (at least in the USA) before youth voters have a majority of the vote, the old guys in power will have already dismantled any meaningful democracy.

@stux when my kids started asking questions for which I didn’t know the answer I used it as a chance for both of us to learn, looking up the answer with both of them. In many ways my kids were a better source of education than a lot of my schooling.

@stux it’s the right thing to do. They want it it to seem hard, to seem like well it’s terrible over there, but there is some good and we don’t want to lose that… that’s the trap, to make you think it’s inescapable. See it with Facebook and older folk in the US, and in so many countries with WhatsApp. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful, but I do believe, in the end, it is better for the soul.

@stux I proposed without a ring. It was actually a spontaneous kind of moment (given my anxiety problems I was nervous as hell and when the impulse hit I decided screw all the fancy stuff, just do it before I chicken out again). We ended up getting a pair of ear rings my mom gave me that came from my great grandmother, took the small diamonds from them, and had one put in to an engagement ring and one out in to my eventual wedding band.

@stux I think I’m more enticed by a game that costs a couple bucks rather than one that’s free. When I see when for free I always wonder if the cost isn’t money… well then what is the real cost?

@stux the bad shot going on here day after day is exhausting, and I’m in a bit of a privileged position. I can’t imagine how horrific it must be for many of my fellow Americans. It makes me wish I had some kind of exit strategy.

@stux that’s the downside of my fanless laptop with no moving parts. There are times I have no way of quickly telling if it’s doing anything. Whereas my old machine… you knew from three blocks away when I was compiling something.

@stux to be fair, if less people had patience for it long ago, before a lot of it started, maybe thy could have clamped down on it and prevented so many horrible things. It’s giving the bad actors just an inch, just a whiff of credibility that allows them to gain the foothold.
